My husband and I want to take a vacation to a secluded Caribbean island. After just being at Disney World he is adamate on going somewhere that is secluded and not crazy busy. At the same time we would like things to do. We read some of the activities/tours that St. Lucia has to offer and they are very appealing to us. Does St. Lucia sound like the place for us or does anyone have other suggestions?

Trip Advisor is a great resource. You can read reviews see pics of the area and whichever hotel you plan to stay in, and post in their forums to ask questions about the location and activities.

My DH spends a lot of time in Barbados. Like every month or two. He says it is quieter that St. Lucia, but also says there are lots of smaller islands off of these ones that are very secluded if that is what you are looking for.

we went to st. lucia for our honeymoon. you can see pics and read more here. we stayed at ladera and ti kaye, but i would only recommend ladera. the rooms are completely quite + private.

another place you may consider, but there is less touristy stuff to do is petite st. vincent.

I have no idea, but I''m jealous! That sounds like heaven. Although I can''t wait to take my daughter to Disney.

Go to St. John. Very secluded and lovely. Rent a villa with a hot tub and/or pool. You can check out
vacation rentals by owner (vrbo.com). Fly into st. thomas then take the ferry over.

Loved it!

Depends on what you mean by secluded, exactly. St. Lucia''s town/city is fairly developed (although not crazy busy - by American standards)- so is Gros Islet - one of the main tourist areas where you find a lot of restaurants, hotels, and shops. However, there are also hotels in the country (e.g Soufriere) that are more secluded.

I wouldn''t call St. Lucia or Barbados secluded, really. St. John''s, Tortola, and Anguilla, may be better if you''re looking for something really quiet/with good beaches. But then - they may not have the same activities as St. Lucia since the topography is different. Dominca is very good for hiking and nature tours, and is much less developed than St. Lucia.

Here are a few shots of St. John...this first one was taken on the side of the moutain. If you look to the right
you can see a beachy area. The second shot is a more close up down at the beach area.

BTW...I''m not a good photographer but its really hard to take a bad picture in St. John...just so pretty!

I was able to check out all of your pictures earlier. Thank you for posting them. I have no doubt St Lucia is beautiful...I watched the bachelor :)
I would go there in a heart beat but would hate for it to be busy since that is what my hubby specifically requested

HAHA, I am not sure how to use this site yet...I just signed up today :)

I was looking into st. John too and then St. Lucia kept coming to mind. Maybe I will look into St. John more.
Thank you for posting pictures.

I loved St. John, but I found it quite crowded. If you truly want to get away from the crowds, you must try Nevis or Anguilla.

Was there about 2 years ago and loved it.

We spent 1 week on the north side, can''t remember the name of the place as it wasn''t very memorable. But the second week we stayed in Jalousie Plantation on the south side. It''s right below Ladera. Amazing experience if you just want to relax. Gogeous, and quiet. Very relaxed atmosphere. It''s between the Pitons like Ladera and just beautiful.

We also had our own villa with a plunge pool and had breakfast delivered every morning. Waking up to a view of the water and mountians was breathtaking. Totally loved it.

Initially, we went with Ladera until our travel agent told is it was an open villa plan which meant takes tons of bug spray so we decided to switch. In the end it didn''t matter as I still got bitten alive.. ugh.

Jcrow already posted pics of the beach and Pitons but I''ll post a few more.

We went to St. John for our honeymoon and it was nice and empty. I''d call the different resorts you''re interested in and ask them when they''re slowest.

I really loved St. John, and can''t wait to go back.
