OHHH good question! I wondering the same thing! We''ve been looking at some stuff down there, and it just seems so beautiful, and close for us in Florida. Did you know that if you own property there you can get citizenship! How cool! There''s a whole development going in down there (lil scarey considering the times) but part of it is a Mandarin Oriental.
I had never seen that Marriott before, but it looks like a really good time! When were you thinking of going?

We plan to go there for six days or so in mid/late May

St. Kitts is nice, but I prefer Nevis - they are sister islands, only 2 mi. from each other. My family owns a house in Nevis, so that may be why I''m partial, but I''ve been to both islands many times. St. Kitts definitely has better nightlife, and it has casinos, which Nevis doesn''t have, but Nevis has better beaches and is more private. I like the hotels on Nevis better too - many of them are old sugar plantations that have been renovated into hotels with pretty cottages, except for the Ritz Carlton.

Your best bet may be to stay in St. Kitts for the nightlife, but you can take the ferry to Nevis to go to the beach for the day - Pinney''s Beach is the best. Also, try to have dinner at Miss June''s on Nevis. You need to make a reservation, but it''s one of the most unique dining experiences I''ve ever had. Oprah had dinner there and wrote about it in one of her books - it''s not to be missed.

Let us know what you decide - both islands are beautiful, and you will have a great time.

My response isn''t going to help you one bit, but I just remembered that in 3rd year of university I was all set to do a summer project in St. Kitts working with MONKEYS! Funding fell through just a few weeks before I was supposed to leave

There are wild vervet monkeys all over St. Kitts & Nevis that originally came from Africa hundreds of years ago, and they are awesome. My dad hates them because they eat all the mangoes & hibiscus in our yard, but I adore them - they are som funny to watch.

I greatly prefer Nevis, but I''m not a girl who needs nightlife on vacation. If I were, I would visit St. Kitts without hesitation. DH and I flew into St. Kitts for our Nevis honeymoon, and we have considered a trip there as well (his boss has family that owns this place, so we are hoping to get a deal). But my heart is completely in Nevis at the Montpelier Plantation Inn. I would go there every year if we could afford to travel so often!

Vespergirl, I am so jealous! Where on the island is your family''s home?
