Has anyone watched Squid Game on Netflix? It's so twisted!!! The Koreans are so awesome at this thriller genre, with all the emotions, suspense, and plot twists! It's not for everyone, but it's definitely a gross, fun, wild ride.

We have literally just this minute finished watching the final episode!

It was pretty mind bending, but I really enjoyed every minute! Reminded me in parts of the Saw movies.

No idea how they're going to make a season 2, but we're looking forward to it!

I tried but a lot is lost in translation so I stopped.
Hubby is enjoying the gore.

@nala I did read that a lot of nuance is lost, especially with the captions. I'm watching it dubbed. I'm going to ask my Korean friend what he thinks about it. He used to get a good laugh from the awful Korean in Lost!

Looks creepy, but I’ll likely give it a watch when I get a chance. Looks almost like a “Saw” thing, playing games

Yes we're probably half way through. It is killing me a little though.

By the way we saw the film that inspired squid game a few years ago. If you liked squid game then this one is captivating (horrifyingly so. I still have images burned into my retina from it.).

Green light

Red light

Oops

We just watched the first episode yesterday. It was interesting but I'm not sure I'm into all that gore!

It is pretty creepy.....

We just watched the first episode last night. I don't care for the violence so I have to avert my eyes during those scenes (hello PS haha) but I find the premise fascinating. We will watch episode two tonight and decide if it is worth continuing. We watch with the subtitles. I prefer that to dubbed version.

We're watching it now.

I liked it, but sadly I guessed who was behind it all in the first episode.
For a great Korean scary story I recommend Train to Busan.

We stopped watching. I don't like it. Too much violence and maybe too dark for what we are dealing with right now in the world. Maybe too close to reality. IDK. But it's a no go for me. It certainly seems popular among the masses but it is not my cup of tea.

Just finished binge watching.

I hate gore and violence, so often closed my eyes or held my hand over them.

Still, IMO it was excellent.
Brilliant!

Oh that’s interesting! Sun and Jim didn’t speak Korean well? I loved Lost; was a total “Lostie”.

Also I haven’t watched it bc I heard it was super violent and gory and I don’t do well with that. I love mob films but I cover my eyes during the violent parts; not sure I could handle this series from what I heard.

I have just stared watching it because I heard about it from children at school (YOUNG CHILDREN!! :oops2::roll2::(2:x2) & wanted to see what the fuss was.
I have see children playing red light, green light in the play ground…. & I’ve never seen that before 5 weeks ago!
What are some parents thinking letting them watch that…. ?!

Same!! My own adult children told me I wouldn’t like the gore. But my 12 year old students are obsessed with it :oops2:
Now I need to check it out.

I'll just leave this here:

My husband 3D printed these masks for my teens, and he is the only one who hasn’t watched Squid Game. I watched it 2x, once dubbed in English and once in Korean (with English subtitles).

I don’t think they have watched it at all. The games from SG have become really popular in schools at the moment. That doesn’t mean the children have watched the series.

Mine certainly haven’t seen any of it (nor have we) but they know all the games from it. I had to make them the damn sugar cookies last weekend!

Some games they’ve seen being talked about on social media as being “from Squid Game” and so they are all playing them. But they know the TV program is a “grown up show” that isn’t suitable for children because it’s violent and scary. Some of their friends have much older siblings who have seen the series and told them about it. But I don’t think many of their tween peers (if any) have actually watched any of it.

My daughter is 11 & wants to know why she can’t watch it because so & so has etc. I saw one of these children today & yes they had….
I’ve had children at school give me details that you wouldn’t get unless they watched it. Perhaps the parents don’t know/monitor what they watch… but they are watching it. Believe me!

…but they are watching it. Believe me!

I agree! They are watching it! They’re talking about which episode they’re on or whether they have binged it. I am not surprised either because a lot of them tell me that they stay up all night gaming too. :roll2:

That's awesome! My husband's friend bought a set of masks with all the shapes and gave me this one. :mrgreen2:

Wow that’s scary! Where I live kids tend to be quite sheltered. Goodness knows what impact watching that kind of violence and perversity would have on a small child.

My girls wouldn’t watch it even if I would let them. I put Indiana Jones on for family movie night and they were saying it was too scary and to turn it off. They are big wusses!

Re: the issue of children watching this, I think the devil is in the detail. My two children are under 15 (the U.K. Netflix age rating for Squid Game) but over primary age, ie they’re young to middle teenagers. Both have watched it and I watched it with the younger of the two because he asked to watch and I wasn’t sure given what I’d heard about the programme.

Would I have let him watch it unsupervised? No. Would I want them watching similarly violent programmes on a regular basis? No. Would I have let them watch if 18 age rated? Absolutely not. Do I think occasionally watching a violent programme will cause emotional disturbance in their futures? No.
Did we have some great discussions about the moral and ethical dilemmas the show raises? Absolutely.

I thought the episode where they played against their partner was a fantastic talking point about how different people react to situations, and how someone who’s probably considered ‘bad’ by society can make a hugely moral, considered & selfless decision for others (the pair of women). We talked about what changed morally between the contestants being ignorant of the consequences of the game (but still having agreed to the T&Cs!) vs being fully cognisant yet continuing to participate, and was either situation ethical entertainment for the rich? Yes, those same discussions could have been had around other prompts, but Squid Games provided a prompt that my children were engaged by. I don’t think it’s all bad.

I see it as similar to leaving children in the house unaccompanied: there’s no legal minimum age for that, in the U.K. at least, it’s up to parents to assess their own children’s suitability. I think this type of programme is a similar decision. The important thing, to my mind anyway, is that there is indeed an adult making that considered assessment of suitability. Children should most definitely not be left to watch programmes of this type without adults being aware and controlling access. Mindlessly watching violence is different to engaging with and discussing the moral issues raised by it. Well, that’s my take anyway. Others obviously have different views and that’s the joy, and challenge, in life!

This was a really creative adaptation but I think it must be really stressful for the hamsters to do these obstacle courses, especially the ones that involve falling from heights.

True.
I'm just glad they don't show when they get shot. :(sad
