Square H&A questions

Hello,

I am in the process of looking for a square H&A. I have looked at the GOG website and the closest to my desired specs is this:

I believe this is a branded "princess of hearts" or "ideal2" cut.

I have also found what look to be some square H&A on JA with VS1 or VS2 clarity.

JA does not identify this as H&A or show a view of the hearts like GOG does. However, to my untrained eye, it appears to have the same arrows of the GOG diamond. It is my understanding that this is a proprietary cut so I am wondering if these are the same cut, if the JA is not actually a H&A or if JA is selling an unbranded version of the cut.

Any thoughts? Can the arrows appear without the hearts? How can I tell the quality of cut with no AGS report?

I can't help you with your questions but from the sounds of it, those cuts arent too common on JA so you may want to place that diamond on hold and request an ASET image so someone else doesnt nab it. If you have any others from JA that you like, request the ASET on those too as you are allowed 3 I believe.

It's not spectacularly uncommon to find unbranded cuts like these hanging out in the JA inventory. It's one of the interesting places to find something like this for less, if you know what you're looking for.

However, you're probably not going to be able to get a hearts image for it since to them, it's not a H&A-- so you'd have to order it and inspect yourself, or see what the ASET looks like and go from there.

I see some special stones when I flip through the cushions every so often, including some really nice 8-mains with price tags to match. But you never know when you might find a good value which is one of the things that makes JA an interesting place to shop, for people who know what they're looking for.

Hearts and arrows is in reference to the symmetry of the stone. It doesn't automatically equate to "best performance"

I personally wouldn't pay for a branded cut like that if you can find some nice ones for less, which you did!

That looks like a really beautiful stone from JA. You should put it on hold and request an ASET if you're legitimately interested in it. I certainly would be.
