square h&a or cushion?

I fell in love with the Tiffany Novo last week and after researching on PS, I was delighted to find out that it is possible to recreate the look. I''ve read that the GOG square h&a is the closest to the Tiffany modified cushion. But after looking at other PS''ers cushions, I am completely confused. Is it worth paying the premium on an h&a or is it possible to find an "ideal" cut cushion with close to a 1:1 l/w ratio? I do know that I want to look more square and not rectangular. I want it to have the same brilliance and fire as an ideal round but how do you know what specs to look for? It seems like there are so many options for cushions.

Also, I was originally planning to get a RB in the Ritani micropave setting and I still like that setting so for the cushion. Would a square cushion fit in the princess cut version or the RB version of that setting?

The Square H&A at GoG looks gorgeous... that is one I was considering before I decided on a Princess of Hearts. You might want to check out the videos GoG has on the Sq.H&A and Cushions under the video link and also on their homepage there is a video on the Cushette. I saw a Cushette at a B&M and it was very nice! If you decide on a cushion, you should contact Mark and ERD and tell him what you want (1:1, etc) and he will find it.

I think either way, Sq.H&A or a Cushion picked by Mark you will have an AMAZING stone, so it''s really which look you prefer. If you want the look of a Sq.H&A, then it''s worth it to pay the premium; if you want an amazing cushion and don''t care about the H&A, the it''s worth it to have Mark find one for you.

IMO, the square H & As look much more like the Tiffany Novo than most cushions. Although I do love my cushion!

Thanks for the responses! FF wants to go with the h&a because we''ll know what we''re getting and won''t need to waste a lot of time trying to decipher the specs for cut quality. FF has contacted GOG but they don''t have the color/clarity combo that he''s looking for right now. Does anyone know of another reputable vendor that carries the square h&a stones?

What do you guys think of an I color for this cut? I used to think my eyes were color sensitive but after shopping around last week, I couldn''t really tell the difference on a stone that was set. With unset stones upside down on a white background, I could see the color difference but once set, it is really hard to tell because I even thought I was seeing color in a set D stone. Do you think the color will be more noticeable on a square h&a vs. round h&a, therefore requiring a higher color rating?

sera - I saw that PoH video yesterday and it was awesome. It actually helped my decision to go with a cushion/square h&a vs. RB. That PoH stone is beautiful, I loved the part where he had the square h&a and PoH side by side. They both looked amazing. Has your stone been set? I will have to look on SMTR.

I''ve not heard of anyone else carrying them.

Did you ask them to try and find you what you''re looking for? If not, I''d give them a call and get them searching.

I think an I would be lovely. GOG has a great return policy and will send stones out to you (you pay, they send, if you like you keep, if you don''t like you return). And Ritani has a great ''novo like'' setting, and personally I think has a better head than the Novo.

It is actually in a temporary setting, BUT I don''t get it until my b-day towards the end of Nov.

I can''t wait to see it IRL! Then, once I decide on a setting, I will get a permanent setting. I went with the PoH instead of the SqH&A because I liked the clipped corners and thought if I get a Leon Mege setting the double claw prongs will look awesome on those corners.

I''d go with GOG''s square H&A. Its facet pattern is much more like the Tiffany Novo which also has arrows (don''t know if it has hearts though) and the outline is spot on. Plus, with the square H&A, you don''t have to worry about cut, whereas with cushions, you really have to look hard and armed with a good eye.
