Looking at a square cushion cut for to make a replica of the novo ring. The square H&A''s are too expensive for me. I found one stone and was wondering ya''lls opinion based on the specs (don''t have pics). Saw it in person, looks great to me, very squareish. Price is a little over 15k. Its a ....

Not much to be said without pictures unfortunately...it''s a bit deeper than I normally like, but that doesn''t mean it isn''t a beautiful stone still...could be facing up a bit small.

I agree. I read time and time again that cushions can''t be judged on specs alone, so a picture would be nice. It''s very square (ratio is 1.02), but it does also sound like it faces up a bit small. When I was looking for cushions in that carat range, some of the specs were around the 7.3 to 7.6 mm range.

I thought that exact same thing. I compared it to cushions on like blue nile and their 1.7ct was about 7mm. However, I looked at goodoldgold''s H&A and they have:

2.11ct that is 7.06mm
2.22ct that is 7.33mm
1.70ct that is 6.55mm
2.02ct that is 7.11mm

H&A is a different animal...you can''t compare.

If you want a Tiffany Novo cushion replica, you need to look for a Cushion Brilliant with 8 main pavillions cut like the plot below.

Charmy unfortunately that plot can look like many different things...and the Novo is actually a different (patented) cut than the regular old cushion brilliant even though the generic plot looks the same. My stone is an 8 pav main cushion brilliant and looks nothing like the novo cut.

The closest you can get is the square H&A stone IMO. If you see a Novo in person it has arrows.

Here is the Novo head on, as you can see it''s quite different than a normal cushion brilliant:

To the OP - can you provide a plot?

From the specs it sounds thick in the middle. I think a 2ct. square cushion should be in the 7.3-7.5 range.

I will try to get plot. Has anyone seen specs on an actual tiffany''''s ring? I am trying to see what their measurements are for a stone around this size.

That plot looks different than the one on this diamond''s GIA certificate (please see attached). Does that really matter? Sorry I can not post pic of actual stone. I will go to Tiffany''s next time right before I go back to see the stone to compare.

Back to the comment on the heart and arrows, if the H&A is the best, don''t I want my diamond to be close to their specs?

Neatfreak - You are right that they do look very different and that the Novo is a patented cut. However, I think there are cushions out there with the plot I showed above that will look very similar to the Novo. There are some 8 main pavillions that are cut different on the top which really changes the appearance. I compared my cushion to two of my friend''s Novo and they are very similar indeed (at least in my inexperienced opinion). I have also noticed that GIA selects the same plot as above for the square H&A.

Neatfreak - I hope you don''t mind but I dig through the history and if I am not mistaken, your plot is more like the one below which is different from the one I posted above.

I don''t disagree with you that mine is a bit different too, but do some more reading on here and you will learn that not only are cushion plots often unreliable but 2 cushions with the same looking plot can look completely different. Just wanted to point out that buying an 8 pav main cushion isn''t the only variable in this equation.

My point was simply that if he wanted THE MOST Novo like stone out there, he was best getting a square H&A stone. I totally agree though that to most people''s eyes a regular square cushion brilliant will do the job. Just depends on the level of "I want it to look exactly the same" the OP wants.

I have attached the GIA certificate.

I talked to Tiffany''s and they had two stones:

1.79ct that was 7.6x7.4
2.03ct that was 7.4x7.2
