Hi,

I just got engaged this Monday. My FI (Yay! I can say that!) didn''t know my size so he bought a simple solitaire setting as a place holder and we''ll go setting shopping together. I was wondering what the square bottomed rings do. My ring was resized for my finger, but it keeps spinning around on my finger. Does the square shaped bottom stop this from happening? Is it a comfort thing? Can a jeweler make any setting square bottomed or is it only particular types? As you can tell I''m very novice at this, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, Liang....

The ''squared bottom'' is called a Euroshank, and it''s primary purpose is to keep the ring from spinning on your hand.

It sounds like this would solve the problem you''re having.

I don''t have one personally, but one of my PS friends has tried them on and finds them quite comfortable.

A friend of mine has one as well and it stops her ring from spinning. I've tried it on, expecting it to be uncomfortable but it wasn't at all.

ETA: CONGRATS ON THE ENGAGEMENT!

I have a Euroshank on my ring and I think it does help with the spinning. I have big knuckles and needed a slightly larger ring to go over the knuckles. There''s also a lot of metal on the bottom of the band so that helps too. It took some getting used to, especially since the edges of the band are squared instead of rounded, but it''s not uncomfortable enough for me to have the edges smoothed out.

I hear sizing beads also help the spinning too

Tried on one by A. Jaffe. Liked the setting pretty well and found the ring to be really comfortable. And to be repetitive, the jeweler did mention the main purpose was to prevent spinning. :)

I have been wearing my new anniversary 3 stone ring for about a month now and at the last minute asked for a EuroShank. I am so glad I did! I really love the balance it provides and my ring never spins. I wouldn''t buy another ring without it.
