It basically means that the diamond may have a somewhat larger appearance face up for it's carat weight. For example a 1 carat round diamond should have the spread or diameter of around 6.5mm, anything much over that then the diamond could be considered a spready stone. This isn't always a good thing, if a diamond is excessively spready for it's weight, often cut quality is sacrificed, so the diamond may be a shallower cut, conversely a diamond which looks small for the weight may be carrying too much depth, thick girdle etc.Date: 8/5/2008 12:53:18 PM
