Hi all,

I've been soaking up as much info as I can with the search function, but I could use some advice now. I currently don't have access to any good jewelry shops, and I will be purchasing online.

I'm trying to decide what spread size I should be shooting for with a cushion (most likely an AVC or CAC) in a halo setting. My girlfriend is size 6. I'd like it to be substantial but delicate (without the feeling that she's carrying a doorknob on her finger)... I know I know, all very subjective. =/

So far I've been looking at square cushions between 6.5mm - 7.5mm. That's left me in the range of 1.4 - 2.1 carats, with quite a difference in price.

Any opinions/pics are appreciated!

I think you have to decide on a budget first. Then you see what stones fit in that budget. I don't think a 2 ct antique style cushion is going to be like a doorknob since they don't face up really large. So anything that size or under (or a little larger, for that matter!) will be fine.

2ct is at the upper end of the budget. I guess the better question would be if a 6.5mm will still be an impressive size, leaving more money to play with the setting.
