Hi,

So i've researched everything I can about reviewing a H&A image for symmetry, clefs etc, but I can't find any information relating to the 'black spots' I sometimes see on the hearts.

I've attached an example of a common image I see on heart patterns...

Now, I know that H&A should not be about light performance, so what are the dots? Are they inclusions?
If so, should I be worried about them affecting light performance or should I then refer to the idealscope / aset image and make sure that is fine also ?

Inclusions, as visible from the underside of the stone, yes. Inclusions that are visible/clear from the underside may or may not be noticeable/clear face-up - it's not a good way to judge visibility.
IS will tell you more about light return quality but light reflector technology tools aren't sensitive enough to pick up reduced brilliance due to inclusions (clouds, wisps, etc.) unless they're particularly egregious and pervasive. You'll want to talk to your vendor about that.
