All - I have spent much time on this forum reading interesting stories and gaining much helpful information. Thank you! Now it''s my turn to buy an engagement ring. I''ve looked around a few local jewelers here as well as chain stores and online merchants. I''ve convinced myself to buy locally at a "brick and mortar" jeweler. I feel it''s important to me and my finacee to have someplace to go to for service after the sale. I would like to list the "specs" of the diamond I''m looking at and get some feedback for any/all regarding the price that''s being offered. I''ve read a lot about markup on diamonds but it seems most jewlers are fairly similarily priced. So here goes - and help or advice would be appreciated! I certainly don''t want to overpay for a diamond but don''t want to be unreasonable either.

any pics?

Can you please post the crown and pavilion angles from the cert, as well as the table and depth percentages?

As DF says, without images of the hearts and arrows to demonstrate its optical symetry/precision, you should not pay the premium for an H&A stone.

Finally, just as an aside, you can take a ring bought anywhere to any jeweler you like for service and repairs. A reputable jeweler will be happy to create a new relationship with a potential client even if they did not sell you the ring! After all, people move all the time and need to find a new jeweler.

ditto

I will try to attach the GIA Report for the diamond later today. I am going to have to reformat it since it''s a bit larger than the site will allow (132kb). From the initial feedback it seems this may be a bit of a premium to pay. I plan to offer a bit lower amount but like I mentioned before I don''t want to be offensive! I was thinking about $14,800 would be more appropriate - any opinions? I know I''m still asking questions without the facts in front of you so I will be patient. Thank you again for your interest/information! Much appreciated!

Just post the GIA report number. we can get the numbers we need from GIA reportcheck.

GIA# 1109734892

Thank you!!!

Any opinion on the price offered? Do you think it''s a bit high or a more than fair price?

I see price ranging from 14-16k online, probably depending on the cut and policies, add abit more for a brick store, usually around 10%.

The diamond has potential but you want to be careful as clouds are the grade setters according to your first post, you would need to get this checked to make sure the clouds aren't negatively impacting performance.
