I am bit confused by the the variety of special cuts in the market. I''d like purchasing a nice solitaire ring with good diamonds. I am looking into hearts on fire, leo cut, and to the most recent addition to the realm Swana Diamonds www.sawanadiamonds.com www.swanadiamonds.com

Can some one offer me an idea on what are the key differences and if any of the said cuts is better than the others?

Thanks.

Leos can be inconsistent, I''ve heard - some great, some not so.

HoF is just a v. expensive brand of H&A. There are several available for much less, though H&A always commands a premium - wf''s ACAs, BGD''s H&As, GOG signature, JA True Hearts (though you need to be careful w/ these)

That last has more facets. More facets = more twinkes = less big bold flashes. Star129 is a more extreme cut.. Depends on if you like the look - some do, some don''t.

Oh you''re just getting started, there are many other cuts out there. Hit up GoodOldGold for a few other samples, such as Jubilee, Square H&A, Octavia, August Vintage Cushion (their own), etc.

Different people will see this differently because, really, there''s a large amount of personal preference in these cuts. There are a number of what I''ll call "ultra premium" cuts (some call them ''superideal'' too) that have different appeals to different people.

The best you can do is decide for yourself what you like and dislike. GOG has some great videos on their site of some of the cuts, even showing comparisons of different cuts. It''s a great place to start expanding, then contracting, your confusion.

A well cut diamond will be better than a poorly cut diamond, regardless of the style.
