Spending all day tomorrow doing a spa marathon at Elizabeth Arden Red Door... fiance's V-day gift!

How often do you go to spas? When you do go, do you just get one thing done (a facial or a massage) or do you tend to buy the "packages" that allow you to spend a couple hours or more there? I am just curious how regularly people really go to spas. I want to make it a more regular thing but it is so costly! And of course feels very self-indulgent. But maybe that's not a bad thing.

Oooh. Sounds delightful. I love going to the spa. Usually, I just stick with a 1-hour massage and try to go once a month. Sometimes I''ll go twice a month and do the 1/2 hour massage, which is just long enough to work out the kinks. I''ve never really liked getting facials as the oils they use tend to break me out.

I never go to spas. To the extent that I have never had a massage or a facial. Sometimes I get the urge to go, but I''m cheap and the prices scare me off.

Never. I''m not really down with people I don''t know touching me, so spas are out of it for me.

I go for a 1-hr full body massage once a month without fail. It's addictive. And also get a manicure and pedicure every two weeks. I never schedule multiple spa services (unless obviously its a mani/pedi) on the same day however, simply because I cant afford to be "out of commission" for that long lol.

Same here.
I've never gone to a spa or had a massage, manicure or pedicure.
Haircuts have even been a little uncomfortable for me. (now I cut my own hair)

Paying strangers (non doctors) to touch me doesn't sit right with me.
But to each his own.

I''d say I go more frequently than the average person...but it''s not because I *love* going to the spa.

First, it seems to be the common female gathering activity among my group. "Let''s do a massage and tea!", or "...a pedi and coffee", "...a peel and snacks". As much as I can I skip the spa part and meet for the other part. My sister however, seems to insist that we go for pretty regular spa days. She pays so I can''t wiggle out of it.

I think my problem is in how vain I perceive most spas to be. They aren''t really focused on *health* but more outward beauty. We have found one place that I feel very comfortable at--it''s very casual and natural--and very spendy.

Rarely. When I was single and could do what I liked with my money I went to get a massage about once every 3-6 months. Now when I want to go I feel like I''m wasting money because DH says that he''ll do it for free. I know it''s not the same, far from it, but he doesn''t get that. I go once every year or so now because I have a friend who is trained and gives me a great deal when I go back to the US to visit.

Last time I had a mani/pedi was about 2 years ago.

Hmm...when I was working at a law firm this summer, I went and got mani-pedis every other week. Partly, I liked to keep my hands looking nice (and my feet too! It was summer after all) and partly, it was a nice relaxation treat (of course the salons weren''t really fancy - but they were clean and they were cheap - $22 or so for a mani/pedi). Now that I''m back in school, it''s much rarer - I just don''t really have the disposable income to make it a regular thing. But when something tough is going on, or something great happened and I feel like I deserve a small treat, I get a manicure.

I''m not much of a massage person though. BF actually gave me a gift cert for two massages at a Japanese zen place and I still haven''t used one of them (and that was two years ago).

Once in a year of blue moons. It's not my thing... a good trip to the chiropractor leaves me feeling better, for longer, and costs far less...

But if it's something you enjoy, then props to your sweetie for a very thoughtful gift!

I like to get facials once a month but do my own pedi since I have hard time sticking my feet in questionable water. Had a few massages [vaca] not my favorite activity

once every few years. The best gift my DH ever gave me, hands down, was a spa package to PAris PArker Aveda Sap when I was in grad school I split it up and got 6 visits out of it!!!

Ooh Gleam, sounds great!

I try to get a 1 hr massage once a month but thee only thing I do consistently. I would really like to get a facial once a month as well but just don''t have the time for it. Not really a mani-pedi kind of girl (I like my nails to look nice but can''t justify the cost because my nails are ruined within a day due to frequent hand-washing in the lab). My mom enjoys going to the spa so we always do half-day packages when I visit her. It''s our "female-bonding time" I guess!

I don''t know why, I always feel very healthy after I''ve gone to the spa!

Never.

I don''t really like people I don''t know touching me. I got the occasional mani-pedi when I was single, but I''m a stay at home momma now. My "me" time doesn''t really take priority a whole lot and that''s fine with me. It''s the price I pay to be able to stay home with my daughter.

I get my bikini line done and a manicure every 4 weeks and I get my eyebrows threaded every 2 weeks. Every so often I''ll get a facial. I had about 6 last year, but haven''t had one so far this year.

I am not a big fan of massages. I can never relax properly. They always tell me off for not being able to relax properly.

I love massages, though I probably only get them once a quarter or so, but I don''t care a whit about atmosphere so I rarely go to day spas. I just feel like I''m overpaying for stuff I don''t need. I don''t like facials or any body services other than massages, and I''m not a sauna person either so extra amenities aren''t worth it for me unless it''s some sort of girlfriend outing.

i don''t do the whole "spend a day at the spa" type of thing, but i do LOVE getting a massage/facial/mani-pedi/whatever else you can do to make me feel good!

we have an aveda institute near us so i can get a facial for half the price, and we have a place near us that does massages for $40/hr if you get an open appointment on the day you call in, so whenever i can, i indulge!

once a month

I have never been to a spa or had a manicure or a pedicure.
I dislike getting my hair cut and always wash it myself before
I go. The less stranger touch I encounter the happier I am.

There''s a gorgeous spa near me (walking distance) in a 16th century castle. I used to go a lot, for individual treatments or day packages. Have to admit though, I was bored by the day spa and working really hard to convince myself that I enjoyed any of it.

I still get a regular facial, because otherwise my skin looks grey, but the rest of it I could live without for a long time. I like to use their swimming pool and steam room, but again, I have a low boredom threshold there too.

I''ve had one massage and when I got married, I got a full manicure. Honestly, I didn''t enjoy the massage much and I could have skipped the full manicure too. I''ve gotten my nails done before (nails painted without the paraffin wax etc.) and that''s okay I guess, but it''s cheaper to just do them myself.

So I guess I''m not into spas really. I don''t like people touching me and I''m too cheap to spend the money.

Oooh, enjoy your day at the Red Door! We bought my mother a full day at the Red Door for her 50th (and then surprised her with a lunch in the spa with her closest friends) and she loved it! She was almost eerily relaxed at the end of that day.

I rarely go to the spa. I don''t get facials because my skin is very sensitive and I don''t trust it to anyone. I''ll get the occasional mani or pedi with my mom or girlfriends at a spa, but that''s *maybe* three or four times in a year. I will pop into one of those small nail shops and get a $30 mani/pedi a couple times a year, but those are definitely not spas!

Enjoy your day at the Red Door!

Ugh, I don''t go nearly enough (I''m so so jealous of your gift!!!). Most of the time I just go for a facial or a massage. I''ve done two full day packages and one was at a resort with lots to do between appointments and the other was at a day spa and that was the pits. I felt like I was being kept prisoner and by the time I was getting my pedicure I just wanted to call it a day.

Ooooh a 16th Century Scottish castle! I can only imagine the fantasies I''d have during THAT massage, especially with a big, buff Scottsman giving me the massage

I''m such a sucker for that burr.

I''ve only been to spa once when I was down in Vegas. I had a massage and after I was SO relaxed, my legs nearly gave out from under me!

I get pedicures regularly, but don''t get massages nearly enough.

Over new year''s weekend, I did a girl''s weekend at a resort with a very nice spa. It was wonderful. I got an 80 minute massage and could have had 80 more...

up until the time i relocated overseas, i only used to have facials whenever we stayed at a hotel/resort. i''d always have one then as a treat to myself. it averaged out at a few times a year. i used to have massages, tho, somewhere between once a month and twice a week but they were therapeutic for my bad back (6 herniated discs and all sorts of problems as a result), depending on how painful it was at the time. when we moved to england i''d have a facial once every 2 weeks and my skin never looked better. i had a massage once every month.

now in NY i have a pedicure once every couple of weeks because i find the cold weather gives me deep splits in my heels, and if i dont get pedicures, they get worse and worse. i''ve also had surgery to address the worst of the disc problems, so now only have a professional massage every couple of moths, tho my husband rubs my shoulders most evenings to ''keep me on the road'', so to speak.

i''ve given up regular facials entirely, and have bought the same products to do it myself at home, tho i still have one if i stay in a hotel.

personally, i love all of it, tho because of my back i can only lay down flat for so long, then i start to feel dizzy and nauseous; one can only take so much soft music, dim lighting and scented candle.

LOL!

It''s a very nice castle, we had our wedding reception there and spent our wedding night in the round tower suite. It was pretty much perfect!
