Hello! :wavey:
I've been lurking for a while now, absorbing as much diamond information as I can, and enjoying some gorgeous eye candy. Thank you all for providing such a wonderful forum!

My boyfriend and I have begun searching for an engagement ring. I've always wanted the classic 6 prong RB solitaire (Pt). I love how it showcases the diamond, and shows off its sparkle. It's elegant and timeless. I love the Leon Mege and Victor Canera versions.

However, I recently discovered VC's Emilya (for round diamonds). It is stunning. Halos have never been my thing, but his is so beautifully made. I now find myself considering this ring. I'm so confused!

My question:
I'm wondering if a ring with a halo will diminish the sparkle/fire/etc of the centre stone? I love RB diamonds because of their incredible sparkle. I don't want anything to detract from that. But perhaps the full/single cut melee could just add to the brilliance/sparkle? (We are using a 1.2-1.5 ct H&A F-H/I diamond).

I apologize if this question has been addressed before.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to P/S :wavey: Provided you purchase a decently cut diamond to begin with a halo with decently cut melee is not going to diminish the sparkle and fire of the centre diamond.

They are both different looks. A halo is more busy and more over the top blingy. A solitaire is exactly that - one solo diamond nothing else for your eye to look at or see.

I own a Emilya with an Old Cut and everyone comments on the ring both the centre stone and the overall ring (the comments I get are we could see that thing blinging across a room). I also own a large solitaire OEC which out of the two despite it being a much larger stone gets less attention and is more subtle I think.

Neither is right or wrong, it's just what appeals to you.

I am a halo girl. I put diamonds around everything. I just think sparkle looks better with a little added sparkle. My husband jokes that I would halo my breakfast if at all possible.... To me, it just looks complete - I have a gorgeous OEC that I had set in a solitaire for a while (and it was a stunning, gorgeous ring) but it just looked.... lonely. The halo version feels right to me.

Thank you for the welcome!

Arkieb1- Well, yes! I learned from PS that cut is key! That will be our focus when purchasing a diamond.
Your ring is beautiful. What a diamond! I adore old cuts.

Thank you for your replies, misskittykat and Arkieb1. This puts my mind at ease.

If you want classic elegant and easy to wear then pick the solitaire, if you are after straight out more bling (not to mention more visual size) then go for the halo.
