Spacer For BGD Tiffany Half Round or Tapered Half Round?

I am looking to get a new setting next year and am considering these two styles. I am mostly going to wear the matching plain platinum wedding band with it, however I would like to save up to get a French cut band from LM or a French cut and Round band similar to CVB at some point in the future.

If anyone has these engagement rings, I am curious to know if you need to wear a spacer with them when you wear bands that are 1.7 mm high or lower. My preference would be not to wear a spacer with the engagement ring.

Here are pics of the engagement ring options.

I have seen the Tapered in person, because that is #1 on my list at present and I wanted to see it to narrow my list down.

The Tapered is VERY dainty. I really liked the knife edge and cathedral-like sides where it's knife edged. And the head is really beautiful. Depending on the band, you might want a spacer because the donut is about a millimeter or so high (it was about half my plain band, so that's my estimate) and if the band you plan to wear with it isn't super duper low set it might get at the prongs. Since my current plain band/spacer is 2mm wide by about that high (so is my Tiffany band), if I go that route (and abandon my flush fitting ways) I am considering a smaller spacer which is why I actually revived my thread on that yesterday.

Decisions...

The plus about the Tapered--it makes the diamond POP! Like....wow!

AME- The fact that you are interested in the tapered tiffany half round makes me feel better about selecting this style. You have exquisite taste. My only concern is that I am afraid it might be too thin for my 6.5 finger. I am thinking of ordering it in a size 6.75 as I seem to be expanding as I get older

Something about this style is so lovely though. Even though I would like a thicker band, I am constantly looking at Mrs-Blop's ring and it is just gorgeous. I think that I will quickly get over how thin the setting looks, since the design is just so pretty. I will probably get the 1 mm band from Jeweler on The Roof if I decide on this setting.

When are you thinking of making your final decision?

Very quickly. I am sick of not having a ring to not really wear all that often    And thank you for the compliment!

I got my Tiffany band in a size 6, which works well for me over the knuckle and stays put for the most part, though obviously spins around a bit when I am really cold, but I will likely order a 6 and forgo the sizing beads this time around. This was a really narrow shank, under 2mm for all but a couple spots, so you might want to consider that when ordering. They might be able to make it thicker if you want though. They do have the knife edge one though as well, which is a bit wider.

I wasn't thinking ahead enough to have the beads shaved out of the Vatche before we sent it in for insurance to find out what that thing is actually sized to, I am sure it's at least 6 1/4, and I really wish I had because that would've helped me this time around. But I think I'll be ok if I wear three rings again even if they're narrow. My knuckles are not going to shrink.

I just wanted to chime in to say that I recently got a Brian Gavin Signature diamond and had it set in their classic Tiffany half round. I had originally wanted the Vatche U113, but when I found the diamond I wanted at Brian Gavin I decided to try this setting along with the matching wedding band in platinum. When I received my rings I was so impressed with the quality of these settings. While the bands are thin they are substantial and well made and extremely beautiful. I can't recommend them enough. For now I am just wearing the plain bands and I love the classic elegance of the look, but if I decide to add a diamond band later I plan to just use the plain 2 mm wedding ring as my spacer.

Not to thread jack but hello Sundial! So glad to 'see' you again! Would love to see pictures of your new rings! I just love the classic look you are describing - would love to see it! Do you still have your three stone ring?

Sorry folks - I'll step out now - was just excited to see an old pal here again!!

MGR!!! It is so wonderful to "see" you again too! You have always embraced the classic look in your jewelry and I have especially admired your stunning three stone ring with the Tiffany channel set wedding band and your gorgeous Memoire five stone. Here is a picture of my new set. There are a few more on the Show Me the Bling forum under page 21 of Let's Show off Our 2-3 Carat Center Stones and on Crystal's other thread for Let's See Your Solitaire Engagement Rings with Plain Wedding Bands. My Hearts on Fire 3-stone ring is now a right hand ring. Thanks for posting! Crystal now back to you and your thread.

Wow Sundial your new ring is simply gorgeous! Such a classic look and it looks fabulous on you! Congrats and so nice to see you again!!

i do not have either of these settings but i do have the vatche u113. I have a shared prong wb that is a little over 2mm high and i do wear a 1mm spacer with it. Yours might be low enough to not have an issue, and the donut might help as well. The best thing is to wait until you get it and see if they hit each other in normal wear. I originally wanted a .8mm until i noticed my prongs were still getting scratched ::) so i had to buy a 1mm one which seems to be working well. If you end up needing a spacer, tinysparklestudio on etsy is where i bought my silver one from, they are 10-12 bucks a piece. I decided i needed to try out sizes before paying mucho bucks to have made in platinum.

i will attach a pic so u can get an idea of how it looks

Sundial- Thank you so much! I have looked at all of the photos of your set. I am so happy for you. Your set is gorgeous! Great idea to use the matching band as a spacer. Makes sense since 2mm is not thick!

LoveLikeCrazy- What a brilliant idea to use a silver spacer until you hit upon the right mm width to prevent scratching! I love your classic set also!

I have a lot to think about!
