I’ve been going back and forth between shapes of lab diamonds because there are so many choices. I went down a rabbit hole looking at antique emerald cuts, starting with @Inked’s 5.59ct emerald she sold last year. I loved the faceting on this stone. From what I remember, she didn’t mention which vendor cut her stone

I was considering Alex Park as a vendor but read that @ecf8503 returned an EC to him because she thought it was ‘leaky.’ Someone else mentioned that Alex’s stones tend to have more Asscher-like faceting, and another P’ser commented on paying a high premium for a made-to-order antique EC stone from CVB.

I’m a little lost on which vendor (not looking for a concierge service), to reach out to that would possess, or cut a 6ct+ lab antique EC.

I'm having CvB cut one for me -

Distinctive Gem is good also - Jon's August Vintage EC's are beautiful

Thank you. May I ask if it’s at a considerably higher price point, please?

I’d be curious to see what @petrock<3 decided to do with her beautiful stone and setting from CVB and which vendor @Inked used to cut her beautiful antique stone.

I trust Caysie and Jonathan to cut beautiful stones. They will inspect it, and if it's not up to snuff, they'll send it back until it's juuuuust right! Is it more expensive? Than what? There aren't too many cutters out there making antique ECs, and many of those are whittled out as quickly as possible, to the detriment of the cut quality. In this case, I think you get what you pay for. :)

Thanks for the info! I really loved the last line—it was spot on. If someone wanted to request a custom-cut stone, how would they go about it? Do they need to specify things like their preferred aesthetic—length-to-width ratio, depth and table percentages, actual measurements, culet size, color, and clarity—or does Caysie handle all that? I came across a thread where @RX1990 bought what looked like a beautiful earth-mined diamond for his fiancée.

I showed Caysie a picture of what I liked - she handled everything else

O M G :appl: That's divine. How will you set it?

Beautiful. Can’t wait to see it finished. :kiss2:

At what point do lab diamonds start looking too big to be believable? I was considering a 12mm lab diamond and only recently realized that, in an antique emerald cut, it would need to be around 8ct due to the depth. I'm not even sure if I'm a true step-cut lover yet, and the whole point of getting a lab diamond was to see if I’d eventually want an earth-mined version—if I could even find one.

I initially started at 6.5ct, thinking it would be closer to 12mm, but now I know I’ll never be buying an 8ct earth-mined diamond. I can’t even bring myself to buy designer handbags! I remember @Inked saying her stone was too small and that she should have gone with an 8ct. Do I revert back to an modern emerald as they don't appear to be as deep. I'm hoping @Inked or @LoverOfBeautifulThings chime in here.

If you're debating if emerald cuts are for you, I would personally would look at CZs with a stock setting.
One of my favorites

Good idea. Thankyou for the link.

Working on the setting now - :kiss2:

The suspense is killing me and I'm waiting to live vicariously through you. How much longer do you have to wait? Did Caysie cut the stone yet? What carat weight did the main stone come in at and have you chosen the setting yet? Only if you are willing to share of course. :kiss2:
