Ok,

I have no idea whether this is gonna work or not, so bear with me.
But basically I have something new thats' coming, so I thought I would try and play
a different type of guessing game - if someone gets one of the questions right
I will reveal more of the gem...

If you know what it is after the first pic, please don't say! (TL, I'm lookin at you, ha!)...

Ok, hope this works, lol !

First pic:

If you can answer any of these about the gem, I will reveal the next pic -

- what colour is it? (I mean the actual whole gem
2.gif
)

and/or

- who cut it?

Any chance of a bigger picture? My eyesight is good but not that good!

A guess (although I''m positive this is wrong) is purple spinel cut by Gary at Finewater Gems

Of course LD...for you

nope, and nope...

let''s see if this helps - but don''t want to give it away straight away.

Same questions apply as before....

Difficult... No idea at least yet

The gem could be pink?

That''s a Barry stone (I think)!

Sooooooooo based on that - I would think it''ll be a garnet or sapphire.

An oval tourmaline?

I''m so new I''m totally going to take a stab at it

Whats' the colour (specifically) ?

What cut is it?

and for the pro's, where is it from ? (not the cutter, the country
2.gif
)

and I'll add in what size is it, jff

thanks for playing guys!

Hey loving,

of course you can guess twice!

I didn''t get anything from Barry''s drop...that lovely gem belongs to another lucky buyer..
7.gif

But because Loving pretty much guessed right,
and I am likely annoying everyone by now anyway (lol) -

here is the big reveal......(thanks to those that played!)

2.4cts, 8.4mm Mozambique tourmaline, peachy pink colour.
And my first BB round cut, I am very excited
36.gif

I was so cut when I saw those pretty pinky-orange gems on Barry''s drop and
I was too slow..

But luckily Barry is a sweetheart and had this one for me still

PRETTY!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I just wanted to post this out of interest - whilst doing some comparison photos for me with the other tourmalines
like this that sold in the drop (other gems cropped out of my pics here),
Barry and I realized how much of a difference it seems to make when the gems are photographed with or without
the glass cases over the top.

To me, (although the colour of Barry's photos is still exceedingly accurate and I trust them implicitly), it was just a fun and
interesting thing to see the difference.

Looking forward to coming up with something pretty and feminine for this one - pretty sure
I will go to Sally again

Gorgeous gem.

Which ring setting from Sally are you getting?

Thankyou Tiger (I knew you''d like it, ha ha
2.gif
)..

Thanks loving - no idea yet. I have a pillbox with my yellow beryl should be finished any minute now..
36.gif

I may have her create something custom.

Any suggestions on metal type?
My first thought was YG to bring out the orangey bits (I actually wanted one a bit more orangey)..
but than I started thinking try WG for once..?

Does anyone know is the consensus on metal choices for malayas? as that''s what the colour of these reminds me of for sure..

Oooooo me likey!

Does this malaya shift in colour? If so, wait until you get it to decide metal colour. My malaya has stayed unset because it's a shifter and looks good in daylight in y/gold but w/gold in the evening!!!

ETA - ignore me completely! It's a tourmaline (note to self, read previous posts!). Yellow gold all the way with this one. It's a warm colour and would look great with warmer tones.

awwww...thanks hun

it sure is pretty! I can''t wait to learn more and get me some more of those gorgeous stones..on ring colour...I''ll throw in another 2cents hehe - rose gold? Only suits certain skin tones but you sound like you like your yellow and rose might look set it off a bit more? but white would also contrast nicely...I''m not entirely sure I helped there!!

What a purrrty stone aj!

Very pretty!!!

I love that color!!

Congratulations on your first Barry round AJJ. It''s lovely!! Reminds me of a rose.

Ha ha,
no worries LD - I don''t mind if you mistake my new girl for a malaya !- after all, like Barry said (and I tend to agree),
these tourms have such a similiar colour to the malayas, but less than half the price per ct - I like it!

Funny story actually, I originally had an order in with Gene for an orangey malaya - this newest gem was the one he cut for me,
which of course was gorgeous.
However, we kinda got our wires crossed and he cut a gem too large for me to be able to afford at this stage...
7.gif

Than literally within the hour, Barry came through with this malaya - looking tourmaline (you guys know at what great prices he has them),
and its even a great big size - 8.4mm
36.gif
.. so I was really happy, and I think it was meant to be.
9.gif

I''m glad LD you''re saying yellow gold, that was my instinct too..

for reference, the Gene malaya..

I know they are quite different, I would love to be able to have both!
It''s a gorgeous stone if anyone is interested..

Hey enoki, yeah you did real well, not just for a newbie! (welcome btw
35.gif
).

Ha ha, all suggestions welcome. I do like the idea of RG, however I may worry about the pink of the gem and the pink
of the metal blending, if you kwim?
I sure do love my YG - I''m thinking maybe a three stone, maybe diamonds..?

I will dig up some photos for fun..

your new stone. The color is to die for. I can''t wait to see how you are going to set it. I know you will come up with a gorgeous setting.

Thankyou very much Ellen, mochi, cinnamon and TL !

A rose - very apt description, thankyou TL - I think that delicate nature is why I want to find
a feminine way to set it.
Apart from a halo, any ideas on how I can incorporate diamonds without spending a fortune?
I''m liking the idea of a 3 stone with side pears, what do you think?
I have this pretty lil bargain OEC sitting around..but would need another to match
40.gif
I think its ~40pts,
can''t remember exactly..
