My SO was planning to go to the store today to see the diamond in person, but when I called, the SA checked for me and said it is currently not in the store. She said she will have the stone brought in and that she'll let me know when it's due to arrive - she estimated less than two weeks. I was a bit surprised to hear this, considering that the eBay auction ends tomorrow, but it didn't occur to me to ask her about that at the time. Maybe I'll ask about that when she calls me back.

Yes they did send it to GIA. Even so, given that the auction ends tomorrow, I wouldn't think that the vendor would want to the stone to be tied up there such that they couldn't ship it until it comes back into their hands. The SA said she'd call me back today, but no word, yet.

I suggested the ASET to my girlfriend already, and, although she was open to the idea, her response was that she doesn't think she needs it since she can just judge the light performance for herself by eye.

I say it's not needed considering it is an old cut. From what I hear ASETS are not telling for old cuts? You have to see old cuts with your eye. The pic of this pear looks gorgeous!It looks lively, bright, chunky, ....she needs to see it and go with her eye for this beauty.

I have a little ASET scan, and I have to say that while it's fun to play with, it hasn't told me anything I didn't see with my own eyes. The better thing to do would be to make sure you or your SO (whoever goes to see the pear) is prepared to take some good photos to post for us here on PS Not only will it be fun for us, but you'll probably get good feedback on the look of the stone (though I can't imagine that stone being anything less than amazing!).

I think you can use your eyes in this case. I don't think an ASET used by hand in a store will tell you anything you can't see.

Instead of the ASET, tell her to place the stone on a bright or dark color background. She should be able to see if there is leakage that way.

I say have her use her eyes. This should be really bright, but in general all pears have lots of leakage. So if she doesn't know what she's looking for exactly, it might mean she dismisses it without the full story. Just have her look at it in LOTS of lighting environment s

Hi Midsommer - no, not yet. The SA originally told me that they'd have the diamond back in store yesterday morning, but when I called her yesterday afternoon she checked and apparently now they're not expecting it back until the end of next week...
