I tried on about 7 dresses at DB and none of them called out to me. Well that''s a lie, one did but it didn''t make me feel like a bride, I just liked the dress. Anyway I still need to shop around but I said I would post photos. I only have pics of 3 because the other 4 were taken by the DB associate that for some reason didn''t know how to operate my camera so while I thought she took the photo, she really didn''t. But that''s ok because they would not have worked. The dresses were flowy but the material underneath stuck to the body making it impossible to grow in unless I took 3 sizes up which would make me look a lot bigger do to the material on top. There was one that I loved if it had room to grow. Link below

Anyway on to pictures. Here''s the first that I tried on. It was 2 sizes too big and while I loved it online, it just didn''t look right. The front had this material thing that kept sticking out which was a little awkward.

Oh and BTW I''m not hiding my face out of fear for the internet. My hair was a hot mess after the DB lady insisted that I try on a veil and let my hair down. I kept telling her I didn''t want a veil but she was really pushing for one so whatever.

This is the link to the dress

This is my favorite but again didn''t make me feel like a bride. It was just a nice dress (and comfortable!!).

And the last that I had pics of. This one was 2 sizes small so it fit around the waist but not around the hip area (as you can seel the fabric bunching up). I have a small waist but big ole hips

Anyway here''s the pic online.

Hey fiery,

uhmmm....honestly, I don't think it does your figure justice. I think it looks a bit awkward around the hip area. I didn't look at the other links you posted though.
Do you love it? (the first one anyway)

ETA: Oops, didn't realize you were posting more...

Anyway, not thrilled with the shopping trip so I''ll keep looking. It''s actually making me rethink either wearing a wedding dress for February or having the ceremony in February. If I had my way I would wear something a little more fitted in the bust/waist area or a little more straight-lined which I wouldn''t be able to wear in February. So we shall see...

It was completely awkward in the hip area and to me it made me look a lot bigger (and I''m not thin to begin with).

fiery - I''d keep searching sweety. Number two is the better of the three for me, but I think you can do yourself more justice

I feel like the 1 and 2 dresses missed the bar. The 3rd however, was really kind of pretty. I loved the detailing around the empire waste, I thought it was sweet and made your figure look really good...I didn''t notice the bunching until you pointed it out. I personally like the empire style the best on you...far far more than the other 2. Even if none of those dresses were "it" for you...I think empire sets the bar!

Hi Fiery, I''d agree with you-they''re nice dresses but neither of them really shout out. I hope that you find something soon!

I think the 3rd one looks the nicest out of those. Did you not like it?

Hi Fieryred,

First off, the little fluffy dog in your avatar makes me smile *every* time I see a post of yours. That is one SERIOUSLY cute pup.

Okay, now on to the topic at hand, hee hee... am I correct in recalling that you will be about 5 months pregnant at the time of your nuptials, so increasing tummy size will be a consideration?

With extreme hourglass figures like you self-describe, dresses with a portrait neckline instantly come to mind. Since that style allows the broadest part of the top portion of the dress to be a bit wider, it optically reinforces the "hourglass" effect that is so alluringly feminine, whereas the narrowness of a strapless gown on top sometimes makes womanly hips look overly broad. Have you branched out in that direction yet on your perfect wedding dress quest?

Hi Fiery,

I think I remember you are down in South Florida? I got my Casablanca dress a few years back from a little bridal store in Boca and the prices are very reasonable and the owner is wonderful. Hopefully she is still there. I can give you the info if you want it, but I just looked on the Casablanca website and found this pretty...

I noticed that too with thr DB flowy dresses that the inner fabric was alway a tad too small and not easy to move in. This is not something that I saw in Maggie Sottero flowy dresses. I tried on MS Ireland and http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?keywordText=ireland&keywordType=any&page=0&pageSize=8&style=A3206 and it was flowy under the skirt as well plus it had a hidden corset making it super adjustable if you needed to go up a side in the belly and still stay small in the chest.

Yeah, none of these dresses I loved. I even showed them to FI when I got back from shopping because I knew none of them would be it.

I did like the 3rd one but there was really no room for growth.

Fleur-I loved that dress you posted and will head to Alfred to try on. Thanks!

Merri-Are you talking about Bellisima? I have to make an appointment to check them out.

I think what''s really stopping me is that my taste in dresses requires me to be a little thinner and not suited for a belly. So its hard to get out of that and into these dresses. Empire/flowy dresses was not what I had in mind so I need to readjust before I go shopping again. For example, the two dresses that I have been dying to try on are these:

Allie--I''m trying to track the Ireland in one of the stores in my area because I like it a lot.

I''m going to keep looking but I''ve decided that if I can''t find "the one" then we''ll postpone. We won''t postpone the wedding itself as we are still planning on getting married in February and having a small dinner, but I may just decide to wear a special occasions dress and get married via court and then have the church ceremony at a later time with pro photos. I know that seems silly but if I do end up getting a dress for the sake of having one, I don''t want to look back at my photos and think I really wish I didn''t wear that dress, you know?

The name of the store is Unique Bridal. I wish I remembered the owners name. She was so sweet and has two kids if I remember correctly. It is just so much more easygoing than a lot of other stores I went to. I found the store because it is on Casablancas site, but here is the info. Good Luck!!!!! I know you will find the one!

fiery- I think the dresses are nice but as you said, nothing goes POP!!! I would keep looking. Don't get too discouraged. I bet you will find the perfect dress very soon!!! Out of these 3, the 3rd dress was nice.

*quick threadjack*
merrjoy- I've just got to comment on your avatar. I had a little miniature schnauzer!!! For 16 years. We grew up together. Awww she was so wonderful. An absolute joy.
9.gif
What a character she was too. I loveeeee schnauzers! I just get so happy whenever I see one!
*threadjack over, sorry fiery*

Sorry Fiery, do you mind if I continue threadjack - I know you love doggies too so I hope it is ok.
Dream, that is my Mini Schnauzer who passed two years ago at 14 years old. She was such a doll. We got another one who is now 15 months old. She is a character - but so loving and smart - they are smarties!!!. I am huge Mini Schnauzer lover and I would have a housefull if I could.

Firey are you in South Florida? There is a shop in coral gables that carries maggie sottero and they have that dress there, I know because my dress hunt was bicostal :)

Here''s another option for you. Not sure what you''ll think of this one. The bow might be adjustable, so you can change the fittedness as needed. I don''t think it says though.

http://www.apeainthepod.com/Product.asp?product_Id=5020A4562&website_id=6

If they have a good return policy, you might try it and see what you think. I''ll keep looking.

I really liked FDL''s and Merrijoy''s suggestions too.

You can totally do better Fiery! That last one is much more flattering than the first two IMO, so maybe try and find something similar to that shape that nips you in at the waist a bit.

I don''t mind any threadjacks
3.gif

Allie-LOL@ bicostal search. I''ve called a few but the sizes are too small to try on and they would have to ship the dress first (meaning I would pay for it w/out trying on). Don''t know if its worth it yet.

I really like that dress LV!! Even the bow!

NF-I know. That''s exactly what I thought. I can do way better. It was still fun to shop even with the crazy veil lady
3.gif

These are probably a little above your price range, Fiery, (given what you're looking at at David's) but I came across this website/store with absolutely wonderful maternity bridal gowns - maybe check it out just to see.

It's called Mom's Night Out. They're not even all flowy!

ETA: I really like the "Newport" style on page 4 - it's $825.

Fiery, I agree with the other posters that the 3rd one was the best, but keep looking. I think what made it the best was the separation of the bust with the hip part...I would look for something with a sash across the middle which can define your waist more.

Keep looking! You'll find it!!!

ETA: Sorry Fiery, I didn't read that you would be pregnant for the wedding. First off, congrats!!! Second off, forget what I said about defining your waist more

I like number three, fiery!

Out of these, I like number 3! But looks like some other great options are being posted.
1.gif

Hey Fiery, I also think #3 is the most flattering on you. But, I agree with everyone that you can do a lot better. Did you mention this in your original post ''cause I can''t remember - what''s your budget?

Hey Miss Red,

I have heard really good things about Bellisima Bride too. I would highly recommend going to check it out!

Regarding the dress pics above, although they are pretty, I think you can find one that highlights your figure better
2.gif
. I have been out of town for a few days, but gimmie a day or two and I will see what I can find.
21.gif

PS How did the doc appt go?

If you''re going to be 5 months pregnant at the wedding, you may not be as large as you think, so you might be able to get something a little more fitted.

I''m almost 6 months in the pic below, at that stage I had only gained 7-8 pounds (I''m 7 months now), and I took these pics to sell this dress on ebay. You can''t even tell I''m prego! The fit of a dress can really make a difference.

Mustang you look so great in the photo

I think the problem is that the associates want to put me in a big flowy dress to hide the belly when really I''m not trying to hide it. I just want something that isn''t going to squish the poor thing.

I''m going shopping with my mom who is VERY honest with me and will tell me when something looks awful and what will/won''t work. This will probably be after Thanksgiving.

As for budget, I don''t really have one. I don''t want to spend in excess of $3,000 but being that the wedding is so small if I find a dress I love I can "afford" to splurge a little. And by "afford" I mean when you take out the fact that we''re not paying for a 75 person reception anymore, we''re still saving money even if I splurge on a dress.

Don''t worry honey, you won''t squish it!!! I wore regular spanx to a wedding at 3 months with twins, and maternity spanx at 6 months and my doctor and perinatologist both ok-ed it both times. That baby will let you know if you are squishing it.

For some perspective I was able to hide my twin pregnancy fairly easily even up to like 4-5 months. So you likely should have no problem.
