I showed a friend a new diamond I had got recently today-- a .31 AGS0 round brilliant-- perfect ideal cut, very sparkly--it''s a J SI1. She noticed immediately, in not very good light, that it was a lot ''yellower'' she said, than my eternity which is is somewhat bigger (.65) and also an ideal cut SI1, but which is F color. She wasn''t even very close to the rings!
To tell the truth, I notice very little difference between the diamonds in color and only if I have them right next to each other and STARE at them and compare. All I see when I look at the J is that it is smaller (of course) but that it is scintillating sparkling and pretty. I have H color earrings, AGS0''s also and again, I truly don''t see a real difference in color. I''m not saying that I don''t MIND the color. I''m saying that it really is hard for me to see.
My friend thought the J was pretty--so pretty that she offered to buy it from me, so it wasn''t that she thought the J was ugly.
I guess she is just color sensitive though--and that I really am not.
What I notice about diamonds most is if they sparkle or not. I don''t like them to look ''dead''-- or even somewhat less sparkly. I love it that my ideal cut ring and earrings sparkle more than 99.9% of the other earrings and rings I see. After that, I notice if they have eye visible inclusions. I particularly hate when they have that look of having black pepper spots. But I don''t see a difference between one white and other whites. At least down to J. I have seen ''champagne diamonds'' and I obviously can tell that they are darker (I don''t know if I like them or not because I''ve never seen a well-cut one).
Am I the strange one or is my friend? From F to J sounds really far, but honestly unless they are right next together and I am concentrating, I look at both and just see ''white''.
