Hello.

Would anyone be able to give me some help/advice please? I have the opportunity to potentially pick this ring up from a person I know for a good price. I don't however have a clue about jewellery or diamonds.

Say I could get it for £1500 - is that a good deal? How much should I pay? Do these things depreciate much? Values pretty stable?

For what it's worth this is not just a money-making exercise - there is a proposal in mind but it's potentially a way off yet. I'm not planning to sell. But if I can get a steal on this I'm thinking to buy it and store it.

Thanks for any and all help.

You can search using the toolbar above for the characteristics of D, 0.35ct, VS1 and it'll give you a list of the comparable prices for the stone.

I looked at Whiteflash's site and pricing seemed to give stone price of ~ USD $950. For the setting above, it looks similar to James Allen's "kite bypass" platinum setting for USD $795.

Total for the ring (if I were to buy a brand new one): USD $1745 or £1310. So no, I don't think you are scoring a deal here.

Firstly, its best to check with your fiancé to be, when the time is right, as to what her ring preferences are.
Some women have very firm ideas about what their dream engagement ring will look like, so a “surprise” engagement ring can be less than perfect.
She may also be very very anti “pre owned”.
As for value / price, ignore any supplied “valuation” papers, these are invariably over inflated and are for insurance purposes not resale and there’s always a HUGE drop in value from brand new to pre loved, especially engagement rings because of the negative “pre owned” factor.
currently on eBay UK, a brand new ring (from US) with a diamond at .35 carat, D colour VS1 in platinum is under £1,000.
A good price for the ring as a preowned engagement ring would be around £700.
