Hi all,

I am quite new to this diamond shopping and am looking at three stones. I was wondering if some of you could weigh in as to the best value. I have posted the info I have below. All are GIA graded and round brilliant shape. I will be obtaining more info from the GIA report on the first 2 stones in a few days. My main questions are as follows:
1. Are these stones good value?
2. How much will the symmetry and polish affect the value and eye appeal of the stones? Stone A is less expensive than the other two, and I am wondering if I am paying for it somewhere else.

Stone A:
Carat: 1.12
Color: H
Clarity: VS2
Cut: EX
Symmetry: VG
Polish: VG
Florescence: None
Price: $6375

Stone B:
Carat: 1.06
Color: H
Clarity: VS2
Cut: EX
Symmetry: EX
Polish: EX
Florescence: None
Depth: 60.7%
Table: 56%
Measurements: 6.61-6.67x4.03
Price: $6383

Stone C:
Carat: 1.06
Color: G
Clarity: VS2
Cut: EX
Symmetry: EX
Polish: EX
Florescence: None
Depth: 61.0%
Table: 56%
Crown Angle: 35
Pavilon Angle: 40.6
Cutlet %: None
Measurements: 6.57-6.60x4.02
Price: $7394

Thanks so much!!

Brandon

Hi Brandon and welcome,

We need the crown and pavilion angles for the first two diamonds to be able to help, and the girdle thicknesses - the third looks to be a very nice diamond from the numbers. Also we need the diameter measurements for the first. It is said that polish and symmetry of good and above look indistinguishable to the naked untrained eye, so unless you want at least excellent as part of your ''package'' then VG could be fine. Have you seen these diamonds in person or are they with an online vendor?

Run the numbers through the Holloway Cut Advisor (Tab under TOOLS). Anything under 2 is good. You need the crown and pavilion angles so C is the only one you can check.

Then do some price comparisons (Tab under PRICES).

Stone C looks nice. Any photos or ASET to look at?

Wow those are some speedy replies!! I believe all three stones have a TN-M girdle thickness. I have requested the additional info from the vendors and hope to receive them next week.

I have seen the first stone in person, compared against another the dealer had. Honestly, I am not sure what to look for in person. He took me to an office lit with florescent lights. He added a caveat that he usually uses those sunlight florescent lamps, but this office did not have any and that the florescent lights would be better to view the stones under than the lamps used in B&M stores. Under the 10x loupe, I could see a single black spec on the stone (the GIA report listed more).

The other two stones are online and I do not have pictures or other images to view.

To me, the most important factor is really how much the stone sparkles, but I also want to get a stone that is a good value (obviously).

Thanks again!

Check the diamond with the jeweller out away from the store lights if you can, that should give you a good indication, but above all compare as many diamonds as you can, then trust your eyes!

With the second two diamonds, post the rest of the info if when you get it, also request Idealscope images if possible, these are very useful for evaluating round diamonds.

I just got the specs for the Stone A and it scored a 5.5 on the HCA tool.

Depth: 61.9
Table: 58
Crown Angle: 36
Pavilion Angle: 41
Culet: none

I will probably end up ruling this one out.
