Hi, all.
I''m new to posting here, but have been lurking for quite sometime. I know that tons of you know a lot about diamonds and settings, so I thought I''d ask your advice before proceeding.
My fiance purchased an engagement ring at a local jewelry store about 10 months ago. It was a marquise with round channel-set diamonds on the band and on the engagement ring sides. I felt like the quality was extremely inferior--the channels were crooked, there were nicks all throughout the ring, and several of the sidestones were loose. The store agreed to have the manufacturer re-cast it (at no charge). When I got the new ring (which the saleslady had promised would be perfect), it had problems that were similar to the first ring''s problems. In addition, the crown was crooked and it had a nick on one side that went through almost half of the thickness of the gold. Sick of trying to get the ring fixed, I called the store and talked to the owner. By that point, he was sick of me, and said that he would give me my money back.
Determined to never make such a mistake again, my fiance and I went to 30-40 local jewelry stores. I was convinced that I could find a store that could make me a higher-quality ring. I opted to go for a local place that had nice-looking work and that many people on our college campus recommended. They did a partial custom job for us, and insured us that we would be happy with the high-quality results. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We have been working with the store (and most recently, the owner) in an attempt to get the ring right. My biggest problems with it are 1) two of the sides are actually crooked, and 2) once again, there are nicks all over the ring.
My now husband and I are both extremely frustrated. He''s convinced that I will never find a ring that I am happy with. I''m convinced that we''ve just been working with incompetent jewelers. We''re in the process of getting a refund for this second ring. A couple of questions for you guys: 1) Do these problems sound like "normal problems?" Without knowing the whole situation, do I sound like I''m just being too picky? 2) I am now going to have to buy another ring, and do not want to deal with local jewelry stores anymore. I''ve looked quite a bit at both White Flash and Blue Nile. I''m extremely impressed with Blue Nile so far. What do those of you who have experience with them have to say about it? Is the quality of their settings high? Any insight/advice into this situation would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
