I was looking at pics of "Mara''s" ring with the 4 prong head, then changed to the 6 prong head. I am contemplating a 6 prong head, however, after my nightmare ordeal with my big, bulky prongs around my 1.76 diamond, I am a bit nervous as to what head to try next1. For any of you out there that have had a 4 prong head, and changed to a 6 prong head, do you have any pics? Does the 6 prong head make the diamond appear larger, or does the 4 prong? I know 6 accentuates the roundness of the stone. I love the look of "Susi''s" ring as well, her solstice is fabulous. I am thinking of putting a stuller solstice head into a cathedral type shown in the pic below. Would a 4 prong or 6 prong look better? Or would it look kind of silly with the solstice head? I just find the standard 4 prong heads that most jewelers around use make the ring look rather boring! I''ve tried the double prongs and we KNOW that after 3 attempts, it just goes from looking bad to worse, so I give up on that look! Thanks

6 light prongs is my favorite, they are out there from several sources.

A round stone looks round regardless of 4 or 6 prongs. The tips of the prongs should be small enough not to interfere with the stone. I have had both and it''s simply a matter of preference. Usually with 4 prongs, the prongs are a little thicker to hold the stone securely. With 6, they are a little thinner. But you see more of the side of the stone with 4 prongs. I really like both, but right now if I were resetting in a solitaire, it would be Leon Mege''s 4 prong classic solitaire. It has 4 sets of tiny claw prongs. And I think it is not true that one or the other makes the stone appear larger.

Just choose the look you like best!

Thanks Diamondseeker, that is the look I was going for, Leon Mege "claws", but it all went terribly wrong. This link https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/any-recommendations-for-a-setting-for-my-1-76-c-diamond.67705/ will show you how my ring first had tiny/think claws, and now has thick, very long claws covering a lot of the diamond, making it look square, so I am trying to keep it SIMPLE for the next diamond setter, hoping he doesn''t mess up the ring again. I think I might go for the 4 basic prongs, and hope that is looks OK, and will be secure enough! It will look rather boring, after having the double prongs, which made it a bit more interesting. I was considering changing the entire mounting to a Stuller solstice, but again, I am afraid the prongs will be too bulky? The store owner shaid she could order the mount, it''s $ 295 in white gold, but non-retunrable, so in other words, if I don''t like it ..too bad! This ring is really causing me grief, if a jeweler can''t help me out soon, I think I will try to return it, and just wear a plain gold wedding band!
