This is obviously a preferance but I was hoping to get some advice. I have not purchased a center stone yet but look forward to in the next couple months (I am waiting for some new Diamonds to be cut and out for purchase). The center Diamond will be a Princess. My Future Bride to Be originally wanted a channel set ring but now she said she will take a solitare or a channel set. ... Now I am just confused.

Hi Chris....that has to be confusing....since she said she would like either...but I personally like my center diamond to have some "cousins" with her all of the time..it is all about the family....I have never known a woman not like the extra family members along for the ride. Go for the cousins! YAY! That is my 2 cents..

Good luck....

Well I guess it depends on your budget to a certain extent. Do you know about how large she wants/expects of the center stone? If you are already going to be getting that size or larger I would go for the channel set, if not I would take the money from the setting and put it towards the stone. That sounds like she has just relized she could get a larger center stone if she did not have as expensive of a setting.

PS I think channel set looks particurly nice with princess cuts.

There are lots of wonderful sites to go looking for rings. Visit WhiteFlash.com, bluenile.com, dvatche.com etc and look at rings with both a channel and solitaire. Deciode if you prefer the channel set ring, the simple Tiffany style solitaire, the cathedral style solitaire etc. After all, YOU will be looking alos at this ring for a long time. Since you know she will accept either, then grab the one that you like the most.

Heh, I understand your dilemma. For my girlfriend and I, we knew we wanted NO stones in our engagement ring; we wanted a simple solitare. The question then was how think of a band, that will look good with a wedding band.

Attached are pictures of what I ended up choosing, just to give you an idea and see what you might like!

Best of luck,

I LOVE channel set for princess cut stones, I would definitely go with the channel. However, if your budget will not allow, how about a pretty, classic solitaire and then get a channel set eternity wedding band? That would be gorgeous as well!

Hi there,
Actually I got my ring set plain and then decided I wanted channel set diamonds. The jeweler was easily able to insert the diamonds into the existing band very easily. You could maximise your spend on the solitaire stone now to get the optimum quality and size you''re after and then set the diamonds into the band later down the track. If you want to do this you need to consider the design of the band now.
Or just to confuse you further, you could get a lovely substantial solitaire like the Lucida look (wide band) and a channel set wedding ring to go with it.
I''d try and get her to look at some rings now to get more of an idea of what she really likes.

I actually went plain solitaire. Now I'm wishing for some friends. My diamond baby gets lonesome. Next time (if there is one) I'm going pave halo. I say get the channel. She won't ever wish her diamond had friends that way. Besides I don't think I've ever heard anyone say, "Oh, honey, that's too much bling."

If she doesn't know your budget, she may be trying to be sweet to your wallet and not seem to be trying to rake you over. We girls do worry about that kind of stuff. If you like it and can afford it, get her the friends.

edited to add a point

what seems difficult about the channel set is how to match the diamonds... I don''t know if it really matters... do they really need to be nice cut stones or can they be just any diamond.

You want someone who will use ideal cut melee.
Facets uses ideal cut melee, as does WF - they sell ACA melee, others do as well.
No - Any diamond won't do.

Scintillating...

Edit *** Opps - I didn't realize we were talkin' princesses! Sorry.
