Ok,
One more thing to complicate things...I just read the link on Solasfera at GOG website. I was impressed with the flush consistently scored on gemex, as well as the mid 9s on the Isee2. Anyone see these in person, and agree they outperform to the eye the super ideal cut H & A. Say the previous stone I had listed on here......

Scott,

I will be taking a look at Solasferas in person on Thursday, but from my research, the scores do not mean they are more brilliant than traditional cut. They simply mean they register higher on the machine. I believe Solasferas give more pin flashes than the broad fire flashes of a traditional stone. This increased pinfire registers higher on reflector technology for brilliance and fire, but doesn't necessarily mean that your real-life experience will be one of brighter or more scintillating. Take a look at GOG's vids to see what I mean.

In my research it seems it's a personal choice. Some people think Solasferas (and other > 57 facet cuts) are too busy looking and prefer the bigger flashes of traditional cuts. To others the Solasferas seem extremely lively and flashy. It's all personal preference, I don't think there's one that's unequivocably "better" or they wouldn't make/sell both.

Good luck, I'll update you when I see them.

Thanks, and do post what you think. I''m trying to educate myself as much as possible, and plan o making the purchase in the next few weeks....

Hey Scott ..

I haven''t seen a Solestra in person, but there''s a similar type debate about whether wide-stepped Generic Asschers -OR- narrow-stepped, more faceted Royal Asschers are "better". To my eye, in a 1.5-2.0 stone, I prefered FEWER facets actually ... too many facets looked chaotic & busy.

I think super-faceted stones (Royal Asschers, Solasferas etc) work best in very large stones (3+ carats??), where the regular 56ish facets might not "fill in" the look of the stone enough.

Also - I was flipping channels last night & saw that a home shopping network was pimpin'' a new line of 100 facet fakies -- YIKES, those looked weird & more "fake" than normal, maybe because people just aren''t used to seeing facet patterns like that. Would make me worry, especially in a size stone like you''re considering, that people might see "different" & think "faux" - rather than "fantastic".

All personal opinion ...

It''s a personal choice. Recommend seeing solafera in person before making your selection. BTW, there are H&A super ideal cut diamonds that scores 3 vh''s on gemex plus mid-9''s on the Isee2. I purchased one...from GOG.

Hi Scott,

Had some time to come here and caught your post. Just some personal comments regarding brightness, fire & scintillation of Solasfera''s compared to what are consider our GoG Classics.

Regarding the appearance of this comparison in diffuse daylight environments including but not limted to
a. outside diffuse daylight (ie. cloudy day)
b. outside on sunny day in shade,
c. GIA DiamondDock daylight diffuse

The views are pretty similar however the Solasfera has a more splintery appearance. I just snapped off a shot of this comparison for ya which I just took of a 1.17ct I VS2 Solas next to a 1.19ct F SI1 GoG classic. Hopefully being able to allow you to see this phenomena I''m talking of.

Regarding the appearance in spot lighting environments including but not limited to
a. outside in direct sunlight
b. indoor environements that feature spotlighting like ... typical kitchen lighting
c. stores like jewelry, tower records :), or stores with non-diffused strong fluorescent lighting

This is where, IMO the Solasfera exceeds even the best H&A''s. The fire/scintillation in them is something you have to see to believe. I did a decent job of capturing this in our video on the subject but any owner of a Solasfera will tell ya ... bring it into spot lighting environments and the thing just soars.

When showing these we do not push any one product over another (as we also feature different flavors of rounds). We feel that we teach our clients more than enough for them to make an educated decision on their own but when we show this comparison in our store its a pretty even split. Some prefer it some don''t. Even those that don''t do make note that perhaps on a future anniversary Bday they''d get one to get something different than the norm and quite a few repeat clients who have purchased H&A''s from us return and purchase one to add to the flavors in their collection. Viewing the video may help you see these differences also.

Hope this helps.
