Went to a local jeweler and saw a .73 round brilliant that is a solasfera h&a. It came with a I.G.I and Gemex certificate. I have read the controversey over IGI/AGS/ and GIA. should I walk away based on the IGI certification?
This is a tough one.
I have a Solasfera and it is a superbly cut diamond.
We also have an ACA, another superbly cut round.
They are both equally explosively beautiful.
My Solasfera was graded by GIA and I assumed they all were.
I checked on GOG's site and all 15 of theirs are graded by GIA.
So I was going to suggest the seller sent it to IGI to get higher grades.
But. . .
I just read on www.solasfera.com that they do send them to either GIA or IGI, so go figure.
I'm surprised the owner, David So, does this.
IMHO it damages his brand, but for some reason he isn't asking me.
I don't know what I'd do in this case.
Normally I'd only buy a stone graded by AGS or GIA but this being a branded cut I feel we know the performance will be top notched.
It is just the color and clarity and appropriate price that are a little in question.
Perhaps the inventory at GOG gives you enough data points to decide if the price is about right considering it is IGI, though of course the color and clarity grades are in question AFAIC.
BTW, to see the price of Solasferas at GOG you have to click on RESERVE DIAMOND.
This little trick is a secret, so if you tell anyone tell them to tell anyone they tell to not tell anyone.
Thanks Kenny, I''m new to this entire world of diamonds. Do you think I should just get an independent jeweler to appriase it without letting them know it has a IGI certificate. the measurements 5.76-5.78x3.58 mm , .73ct, G-color, clarity vs(2), cut/polish/symmentry=excellent. Does this seem to match up with the standards?
