Hi all!

Just wanna firstly say how awesome this site is! Really glad I found this before making any purchases. Been doing a lot of reading around and have been attracted to GOG because I've heard so many good things about them :-)

Just wanted to ask everyone's expert opinion though about princess cuts. I'm interested in the Solasfera princess cuts, but the ACA princess that WF offer are also very tempting. The only thing is, GOG seem to provide a better service in terms of displaying the brilliance of their diamonds through videos (which is awesome) whereas WF simply do not.

However, all of these things aside, I was wondering which diamond would you prefer if you had to choose one? The Solasfera princess cut or the ACA princess cut? And why?

Also, I had a quick look at the inventory at GOG and found this: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7715/.. I also found this at WF: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2623354.htm.. From looking at the ASET and IS images, which would provide the best brilliance and sparkle (regardless of the carat difference)?

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

You can't go wrong with either. I chose an ACA, but Solasfera princesses were not available through GOG when I bought mine, so I didn't have the choice. I believe the markup is higher for Solasferas, but they're pretty much all cut the same way. ACAs are a little less expensive, but there's more variation in the faceting patterns. Given the choice, I would try to find an ACA with a faceting pattern that I love, in the size/color/clarity that I wanted, and if I couldn't, then move on to the Solasfera. You can always look at the GOG signature princesses too, which will be more like ACAs in that they're not all cut exactly she same way, but you can ask Jon to make a video comparing the two side by side.

I would love to see all of these side by side.
I'm certain they are all spectacular, but you may prefer one look.

I'd also consider the princess that is from Cut By Infinity.

If you could buy two and compare them live side by side then return one you'd be super sure.
It will only cost you return shipping if you return it within the vendor's return window.
Read all the policies carefully.

The thing I like about the solasfera is the small table. I dont think ACA princess cuts all have small tables but if I could
find one like the one you found I could be just as happy with it as a solasfera. Their asets and idealscope images look
very similar to me. The solasfera looks like it may ever so slighly have a tiny bit more leakage but probably not going
to matter to the naked eye. They are both very similar and beautiful in my book. However, with other ACAs
I would perfer to have a solasfera over.

Like this one has a much larger table. Although it would still be considered very pretty I still perfer a smaller table.

Some of the newer ACAs are being cut with smaller tables (under 60%). For example: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2612495.htm. I don't have a particular table preference as long as it sparkles, but it's important to figure out what you like.

Kenny is right - Infinity princesses are another brand to consider. Some say they're the best of the ideal-cut princesses, but I haven't seen one in person. They only have 2 chevrons, so the flashes are larger and fewer. My personal preference is for a 3-chevron stone.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I think I'm gonna go for a Solasfera! But I'm just wondering also about their symmetry and polish. GoG have some Solasferas listed with varying symmetry/polish. Some have symmetry of Ex and a polish of VG, whereas others either have vice versa or have a symmetry of VG and polish of VG. Will this make a big price difference? The one I'm interested in is this: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7715/.. But I'm not too sure about a symmetry of just VG. I'd really prefer EX. Is this something I should be worrying about?

Thank you!

I would reserve that diamond ASAP so someone doesn't grab it. Lurkers here have a way of doing that once a link is posted.

You shouldn't worry about VG polish/symmetry. They're not likely to be visually different at all. You can call GOG and ask them, but since the light performance is ideal and Jon backs it with his lifetime policy, I highly doubt you'll get a different answer. It looks like a nice stone!
