Should one be concerned that the solasfera being a round modified brilliant has no cut grade on it''s GIA report? It also does not have the angles for the pavilion and crown.

Maybe I''m a purist, but wouldn''t you want a more classic 57 facet diamond with all the ideal angles, have it certified with a cut grade by GIA, and not rely on extra facets and a proprietary cut to make it "perform" better?

Love to hear people''s thoughts on this

GIA only gives cut grades to standard round brilliants.

Not everyone likes a standard RB.

In larger stones, 57 facets may be considered insufficient by some people.

Isn't it better to have choices?

Given how cut focused we are on PS, that would make sense.

However, I have seen these solasfera and I have to admit, they are amazing. So are the eighternity diamonds. And all the additional work GOG puts on their website (ASET images, idealscope, etc), supports the performance characteristics of those diamonds.

I nearly bought one, but ended up with Isee2 Diamond.

Like JulieN stated, isn''t life about choices? :)

But not all diamonds with extra facets look better. I think the Leo from Kay''s looked ok and the MSID I saw at Robbins Brothers wasn''t very good.

I agree...i''ve seen the Soalsfera in person at GOG and it does perform WAYYY better than a regular ideal...they also have a 129 facet but IMO, its sparkles TOO much (looks too busy).

As a buyer and seller of rare high performance diamonds YES you bet it concerns me. There are many diamonds marketed as "best" etc. so unless I can see objective data (not necessarily a GIA Report) AND that data supports human observation I don't have to wait for GIA/AGS etc. to tell me its beautiful.

Not to mention that if a person saw one, agreed and preferred it they always have the option of trading it back with me for what they paid. No loss and nothing to lose.

Perhaps not on the GIA Report but it does if you look at the other reports we provide. Numbers are good to know but Optical data is way more valuable IMPO.

Like others who have chimed in I like *choice* and I like *options*.

Diamonds are a visual thing and one person's preference is not always the same as another's. Av, above's fiance saw one next to an H&A (1ct size) and after seeing them side by side it was a no brainer for her. I love 57 facet H&A's but I also love the ingenuity and creativity of cutting facilities who think outside of the box who create products equally as beautiful (if not moreso but that depends on your taste) than the 57 facet variety. Viva la variety.
