Solasfera has a solid blood-red Idealscope image.

Is this achieved by painting and digging as in the Eightstar, or is leakage eliminated because it has 10 sections instead of 8.

Hi Ken,

Another person forwarded this thread to me which you had posted while I was on vacation so please forgive my delay in this response. You're not looking to get me in trouble now are ya?

The answer, according to my research on this is no. No painting or digging on Solasfera's, at least to the extent that would cause it to take a hit. Bear in mind that neither GIA or AGS provide cut grades on modified round brilliants such as the Solasfera. Solasfera acheives this by adding additional half facets on both the crown and pavilion and cutting them to angles which primarily draw their light from the 45-75 degree angular spectrum (pinks in ASET with minimal greens, see graphic below). A corellation we have found with regards to both GIA and AGS systems is that diamonds that exhibit painting that take the hit in GIA's system actually show more greens around the perimeter (upper half region) in the ASET scope demonstrating that more light is being drawn from the horizon (or 0-45 degree range) than stones that don't exhibit this feature. To some people who view this they don't see it as a biggy, to others it is. We always encourage people to view the stones in question when possible to determine this for themselves.

While this thread has been bumped (and unfortunately on a topic I'm not very excited about answering), please allow me to let me take this opportunity to offer my apologies to those who are perceiving me to bash this subject. It is truly not my intent. Over the course of the past few months with the changes in the GIA system this topic has come up perhaps more frequently than others and I realize that as a participating vendor on this forum my posts can be perceived/construed as being biased for or against and naturally so since we are sellers. Sincerely, my feelings on it are the same as any other subject that causes a stone to take a hit in either GIA or AGS systems and I am not purposely looking to address this subject alone. I think all the issues should be discussed openly and with all frankness and with no particular attention given to any one of these subjects. I have always dealt in a straight forward manner on any subject matter I participate in on this forum but have felt singled out many times when participating in threads on this particular subject. After a discussion with some friends here they have helped me to understand some perceptions I wasn't entirely grasping regarding my commentary or participation in threads where this was the subject. With that, I have taken it upon myself to speak this openly and apologize to those whose perspective I have not seen clearly. I hope ya'll can accept my apology if indeed this is how you were perceiving my participation in these threads.

Sincerely,
Jonathan

Jonathan,

Thank goodness we don't have PMs anymore, or I'd just be wasting more time.

3 - 4 items.

1) Glad to see you responding to this thread; I'd seen the question, and was interested in the answer

2) Who ya gonna call. Jonathan, I think your efforts at helping customers, and at striving for excellence are unique, and may be unsurpassed. I recommend you frequently, and now that your options are in the search by cut db, I do this all the more so. I think anyone shopping for a diamond would be more than well served by you. BTW, for anyone interested in an appraisal on the east coast, can you help them? I mean it! Let me know. PM me (oops, no, better respond here).

3) Having fun with data (or...call me great, call me scum, but call me!):

OK, lets see what you can do if you experiment as I have (but to have fun, vary the time line...I picked 2 months.

Using the search option here, select Rhino, enter in "painting," and screen for the last 2 months. The question is...did Jonathan bring up the topic of the influence of painting more or less than half the time?

On Gemex, he brought it up
On GOG...not fair, he was brought up in jest by Garry, must exclude
On Idealscopes, he brought it up
On painting, not initiated by him
On painting, not initiated by him
On performance...too much text, too close to call.

This last post was from 7/14, maybe one of you can help me call it, cause otherwise, it's a tie.

Also, maybe if you go back 3 months, the data will vary.

Warm regards,

Ira

Hey Ira. Yes I did get a couple of emails about this one but was reluctant to answer as I''m not looking to start fights or be interpreted as doing so because I offer my opinion. Just looking to help when I can.

Thank you for the kind words Ira. We are working harder to make it even easier. You''ll see more changes in the very near future. In answer to your question... the answer it yes. Sure we will help folks with informational services here in the north east.

Kindest regards,

Hi Kenny,

LOL ... I hear ya about the old age thing. Well ... I don''t consider myself THAT old but the bod has been experiencing some changes lately that do accompany it.
23.gif
About 2 years ago I had to get glasses for distance driving at night and this past Feb found out I was diabetic.
7.gif
Last half of last year my bod was showing some symptoms of this and I wasn''t sure exactly what was happening which threw me into a little depression. Having found out, I now have my blood/sugar under control and back to normal. This morning it was 98 (normal sugar is 80-120 and mine was in the mid 300''s when I got diagnosesd). THANK GOD all is good on that front.

I knew eventually this subject would come up because of the red reflector image of the Solasfera, so thanks for the question. If you''d like to see more detailed graphics regarding the girdle cutting let me know and I''ll do what I can to accommodate as there are a few different ways to detect these features. In fact the latest Helium installment reveals the exact degrees/notches of both painting and digging and we will be adding this to our current tutorials on the subject in the near future. There are just some things I want to discuss with Sergey before we do.

Kindest regards,
