I''m a bad mother. I went straight for the door frame and TGuy went straight upstairs for Amelia. Guess all those years of earthquake drills in elementary school are still ingrained in me, whereas my husband was actually THINKING!

DH is down in Newport Beach and he said it felt like a violent shake (it''s only his 2nd earthquake since we moved to CA).

The ones I remember sort of ramp up, but because we were so close to the epicenter, it was a big jolt, then the shaking calmed down pretty fast.

We didn't feel anything here. We are about 30 min away.
Glad you, Tguy and Amelia are ok.

OT: Did you remember that earthquake last year with epicenter at Chino Hill? I will forever remember that one b/c I was laboring at home that day, and we went in the hospital that night at 9pm.

you''re right in LA, right? You probably felt it worse than he did. I think it scared him though. Luckily he just moved into the apartment so there was no furniture to fall. My brilliant dog didn''t even notice it either!

It was surprisingly light-- after tuning the the local TV news for details, we were both a little shocked that it was both as sizable and as relatively close as it was. It felt *tiny* here in the hills. Our normal harbinger, the Wii receiver delicately balanced atop the flatscreen, remained there for the first time *ever* in a felt earthquake.

As for forgetting your baby, TG, I must admit your avatar has now taken on a new, fresh dimension of stick figure self-recrimination.

Nope. Just some pics falling over. Just one first big jolt but the rest wasn''t bad at all. TGuy wouldn''t have made it up the stairs if it continued at the rate of that first jolt.

Funny thing is that the earthquake that happened last August, I went for the kid. So hard to predict reaction. TGuy wasn''t home for that one (never even felt it since he was in a car at the time) but this one he absolutely shot out of his chair to go get here and nearly knocked me over as I got up.

My workplace is about 300 yds from a 2.5 aftershock that happened under the Air Force base in El Segundo. Between the big quake, and the 2 aftershocks, I wonder what the office will look like tomorrow.

Hopefully it will be OK...

This is the first quake I''ve ever felt with such a close epicenter. If this is a 5, I don''t think I want to be anywhere near the epicenter of anything 6+. God help us when the big one happens!

I was home alone with little B, DH was out walking the dog. I grab little B and ran for the door and tripped while jumping over the baby gate. Fell and was trying not to smash little B so I landed left knees first. Now the knee is all swollen and I''m limping. Hope everyone are ok!

Yep, felt it here on the west side!!! My first one

which is actually pretty pathetic for having lived here nearly 6 years. It didn''t shake here for long enough to get up and to a door frame. I barely had time to stand up and call the dog''s name (gotta protect my baby!) before it stopped shaking.

Felt queasy at first, then actual rumbling/rattling. Didn''t seem like more than 3-5 seconds to me, but they''re estimating 10-15 on the news.

Felt it here in OC. Not too strongly, but enough to rattle me. We had about 10 seconds of pretty strong rolling.

The one last August REALLY shook me up and honestly, earthquakes have spooked me since. I''m a native Californian and up until last year I never blinked an eye at quakes.

Being on the East Coast I don't get to experience many earthquakes. I remember that among the other disasters to hit Colombia while I was there, however, there was an earhquake. It was not a devastating one that killed people, but it made the news in the United States. As usual, we adopting parents were oblivious to what was going on around us. We were all absorbed in ourselves and our babies. From time to time one of us would get a call from the States and find out there had been an earhquake or that a bomb had gone off in the city in which we were living and he would tell the others. I was in a car during the earthquake and never felt it.

It started out with the usual shudder, then long rolling shakes, a big jolt, followed by more rolling. If I wasn''t aware of the potential for harm to others, it was actually the most "enjoyable" or interesting quake I''ve been through out here. The rolling nature made it seem almost fun.

People were streaming out into hallways and out into the street in downtown LB, which they normally don''t bother to do. I was a little surprised they finally settled at 4.7

Yeah, that was the strongest 4.7 I''ve ever felt, but I think it was the jolt that made it seem stronger. The shaking was actually not that strong.

Felt it up by Pasadena strongly, but not the aftershocks. Life in SoCal: always an adventure.

It actually isn''t that bad. I find that dry heat is a lot more tolerable than humid, wet heat - it''s really hot, but I can sort of ignore a dry heat, whereas humidity makes me sweat and feel icky.

Not as bad as the other, but another decent jolt.

Musey, you are too far north to be feeling it...apparently it''s LAX and south that are getting it good. Weird, because the South Bay isn''t known for being an epicenter. The earth is shaking underneath for sure!
