I guess its possibly a cultural thing ?
Maybe it's old fashioned?
And in not even married so what would i know ?

But my mum never took her ring off once Dad put in on her hand back in 1965
and she was burried with it still on

I still like just a plan gold band
I don't get all the chopping and changing out of wedding bands
I mean its a symbol of unbroken love - that's why its a ring
And what about the peeps who wear two weddings bands for the modern aesthetics or symmetry or what ever ?
Do people that wear two matching bands remember which one the spouse put on their hand on the big day ?
Or does he/she put both on ?
Or are modern brides not sentimental in that regard ?

Who still favours just a gold band without diamonds ?
The British Royal family?
Do what they do influence what we in the Commonwealth do ?

(Not a criticism of others just an observation)

What did your mom do ?
Your gran?

You know I don't remember my mom ever wearing her ring at all. I know she had one because I have her diamonds that my dad had rescued somehow. But I have 0 memories of her actually wearing one. Same with my grandmother. Obviously she had a set too because it's mine now.

My original wedding set I am not wearing right now. The inside of the band I wore on my wedding day wasn't finished very well and it literally cuts me. And with the covid weight gain my engagement and anniversary ring from my husband are just a tad tight for my comfort. So I'm having more fun with wearing my birthday rings instead :D The carved rose gold band and the 3 stone are just so pretty and i really love how they look together. I do take them all off for certain activities though. Like the gym or cleaning. Then they go right back on after I am done.

The Queen's set is actually one of my favourites. Megan's is next. I don't know what happened to me but I've just fallen so hard for that type of look lol.

My mom had a platinum set, it was an illusion setting with a small diamond at the NSEW of the main diamond. The main diamond was a very petite 17 points but clear and sparkly, her band was just a plain platinum band. She wore those rings all the time and when they were given to me it was obvious she hadn’t cleaned them in all that time! They were unfortunately stolen in a burglary about 20 years ago.

I found an example pretty close to the one she had, photo credit to Stamford Jewelers on Etsy:

My mum does not wear jewellery except for an occasional crystal pendant and a watch.

I take off all my jewellery before I go to bed, or when I change into my lounging outfit at home (a kaftan and a dressing gown).

I worked in controlled environment when I was younger (now a desk job) and would take off all my jewellery, including the plain wedding band when I had to gown up in protective clothing.

I could have kept my plain wedding band, however, I preferred not to.

DK :))

My mom had a wide gold band; she never had a diamond or any fine jewelry. She lost a few band and would go to the local department store and just get a new one so I haven’t attached sentimentality to any jewelry. It’s a symbol, sure, but it doesn’t make the marriage (at least to me). I do think it’s sweet when someone keeps their original band forever and wears it 24/7, though.

I think it depends. My grandma was a widow throughout my life and didn’t wear a ring, and my mother married three times...she now wears a wedding band and engagement ring given to her from her boyfriend. It’s symbolic.

I intend to wear my wedding band all the time and not replace it, and my husband will too. I have already reset my engagement ring and feel differently about it, not so sentimental about the particular setting or the diamond but want to wear one

Im very sorry they got stolen :(2

It actually bothers me when people don't take their rings off lol. There are so many non-appropriate activities for rings that can be unhygienic (raw meat) to downright dangerous (weight lifting). Maybe I just have an extreme fear of ring avulsion!!

Thanks @Daisys and Diamonds, it’s been a long time so I’ve gotten over it but to lose the rings was devastating.

@telephone89 YES about not wearing rings all the time especially while cooking:sick: I take mine off for that, showering, sleeping and when I might be doing something strenuous. I wore my original engagement ring all the time and discovered recently that it is chipped in two corners (princess cut).

Ugh its awful. Google at your own risk LOL

I never realized it was that bad until Jimmy Fallon talked about it. I think he spent almost a week in ICU for it. I take my rings off if I’m doing anything risky.

+1

I also think that if you love your ring (as well as your finger), treat it with kindness and respect. Don't abuse it by wearing it while doing the gardening or weight training with it on.

Ring avulsion is a very good reason to never ever consider wearing rings made of titanium etc.

So who's got a plain gold band as a wedding ring ?
Who upgraded to something more sparkly ?

I got a plain white gold comfort band but it no longer fits :(
But yeah I don't wear anything all the time or while sleeping. Not comfortable for me

I have a plain 18k rose gold band in addition to a few others, including those with diamonds.

Honestly I think my plain band looks best on me. I’m a pretty casual person.

You're not the only one lol. I have a fear of this too. It's why I won't lift stuff or exercise in them.

I don't have a wedding band, but even if I did have one I wouldn't wear it all the time. No rings for doing weights/pilates/gardening/moving things about/dishwashing for me.

The one piece of jewellery that I wear the most is earrings. I take them out at night, but otherwise wear them most of the time. Just not swimming as I don't want to lose them and I don't wear them doing Pilates because they get in the way for some exercises.

If I did have a wedding band I think I would have a few different bands. I just can't help myself. I am not really a one ring girl, even if I am a one man girl.

My grandmother was divorced at an early age so was a poor single mum so I think if she had anything valuable it would have been sold to feed her children.

My mum had multiple rings (and multiple marriages) none of which stayed for very long except the engagement ring. I don't think she wears a wedding band. Maybe that's where I got it from.

I have only been married a couple of years. The rings I got for my husband and I were ebay finds! I love the bargains that I got for them both, I think I paid $500 AUD. Mine was an 18ct yellow gold with 26 old cuts in an eternity setting (which cannot be resized). I would love to replace all the diamonds out of it as some of them are dark but financially it's hard to find old cuts that fit. Also I have gained a bit of weight during covid so it probably wouldn't fit right now. My partner got his 9ct gold and diamond chunky band that we were able to resize. LOL lucky he didn't have a choice in picking the ring and I don't think he cares. We both don't wear our wedding rings. I wear one ring on my ring finger most days though. I am upgrading my wedding band this year though but thinking it might be a right hand ring as I my fingers are short and I actually don't like stacking - we will see if I change my mind.

Could you get it resized?

My mum worked office jobs then stoped working once i came along
She certainly took her ER and other rings off when baking, gardening, doing housework and they went regularly to the jewler for cleaning and check ups and mum took really good care of them
most woman i know don't or hardly ever take their wedding ring off

I don’t like the idea of wearing a ring 24/7. The way my mom (and maybe that’s why I’m the same way) interpreted the idea was to wear the same ring everyday, on the same finger, but to take it off while showering/sleeping/exercising/cooking.

I took very good care of my wedding ring and engagement rings and never removed them if I could help it. I love wearing significant rings and they always meant a lot to me. But that’s just me...of course to each their own.

Where do you hail from ?
Im interested if this is particular to certain countries or even ages ?

I wore mine all the time until COVID came along. Because of all the hand washing I haven’t really worn it since March........

Always keep ring on, or not?
Psssh! ... Whatevs!

People vary, so everyone should do whatever they prefer.
Who gives a F if some homeless nobody, or some queen of the universe does it, or not?

Once again, there is no single correct way that every should comply with.
Pursuing that BS fantasy is so tiresome! :nono:

I chose a plain wedding band for this reason. Never took it of when married. I could garden in it, clean in it & it never scratched my child when she was a baby.
My mother still wears her wedding band (on her right hand), even though divorced for nearly 40 years.

My mom, my fil and mil

And my dh

All of them plain wb wearers.

All of them not doing dangerous manual tasks!

My x husband always wore his wedding ring (as I did).

It was a very thick, wide ring (3 two tone bands held together with rivets).

The jeweller who made it said he thought it was too thick for his job (mechanic) & for the heavy labor we did on our property. He said he would get a huge callous on his palm under his ring.... he did.... but he never took it of and nor did it worry his or stop what he was doing.

We did them regularly but were put straight back on.

My DH has been wearing his wedding band 24/7 these past few months due to an injury making it hard to get it on and off so he just leaves it on for now.

Other than him there is no one in my family who wears their ring all the time.
