Do we like it?

Remember...casual, labor day bbq is the theme...

I wanted to wear a pretty dress, but nothing crazy.

Also, I''m thinking no veil...maybe just flowers in my hair?

What do you guys think?

Also, keep in mind that I''m a bit hippy...(as in big hips, not hippie) so I need a dress with an a-line!

Thanks! It is by Dessy. It is a bridesmaid dress...

I thought it would work because it is a bit more detailed and intricate looking than your average bm dress.

Now, I just have to lose the weight to fit into it well!

Littlelysser -

I think that is adorable!!

Also, just to put a bug in your ear.. as eyelet is HUGE this year... JCrew has an eyelet floor length dress in Ivory.. that is gorgeous.. if you want LONG.. It really is not frilly at all.. in fact.. I wanted to wear it as my rehearsal dinner dress as our rehearsal dinner is a bbq. But the pricetag is steep $1200... here is the link: http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod81872411

But the wonderful ladies of Pricescope found me a GREAt knock-off by Aria Dresses. It comes in knee length or floor length, both in A-line or column: http://www.ariadress.com/Desciptions/Desc161FAWhite.htm And the best part is: its only $170.00

The only reason I didnt get that dress for my rehearsal dinner is because they had a projected delivery date of May 20th.. and with the rush March 21.. and my rehearsal is on the 30th.. i didnt trust the timing!

Hope that helps!! I think eyelet is PERFECT for you outdoor bbq wedding!! I am sooo jealous right now!

I love it ... but I will tell you that big ol' QUITE hippy me ordered a very similar dress from Watters & Watters and it did not end up fitting right. They made it to measure but it was hard to do alterations on the finished dress because of the thick lace overlay. I ended up taking a loss on that dress & picking up a VERY SIMILAR version that fit off-the-rack at (gulp) David's Bridal.

I think I was hoping that dress would be more poufy, floaty 50's tea-length & it was actually quite slim-fitting A-line ... that didn't end up looking so swell on my body.

You'll probably be able to try on dresses that are actually YOUR SIZE so you'll not have the same issues I'm sure. Just a heads up about those pretty & devilish LACE OVERLAYS.

Love it! I think those slim skirts look better on women with curves. Think Katherine Zeta Jones. It reminds me of this little number from J Crew:

I think it''s perfect for your wedding style! Now what about shoes?

Deco - thanks for the advice! I'm definitely a hippy gal. I'm trying to lose weight before the wedding...lost a bunch of weight about six years ago...Met FI and gained pretty much all of it back...so yeah...I'm definitely not a size 4...hopefully by the time of the wedding, I'll be down to a 10 or a 12...*hopefully*

I definitely appreciate that advice - and I do think I'm going for a 50's type tea length...hmmm. perhaps a return to my original vision is in order...

And here, if anyone cares enough to look, are the links to the other dresses I like...

Someone posted this Melissa Sweet dress "Chantal" over in the "World''s Most Fabulous Wedding Dresses" thread ... and I *immediately* thought of you & your Labor Day fiesta.

It''s a little fancy but so so so CHIC & swingy & fantabulous!

I''m totally in denial about shoes at this point!

I''d like to wear flipflops or be barefoot! Heee.

Neither is appropriate, I know...but still.

I have the definite idea of what I want for a dress.

But what sort of shoes does one wear with it?

I have no idea!!!

SHOES ... if you''re getting hitched outside you might want to consider a cute wedge sandal ... easier to walk across grass in a flat bottomed shoe like that. I did walk down a grassy field in closed-toe slingbacks but I wouldn''t recommend it!

Later I changed into metallic pointy-toe flats for the rest of the night ... even though I swore I wouldn''t.

Makes sense to figure out the dress first though!

I love the dress you posted.

As for flipflops...I did wear them on my wedding day.

I think it''s adorable. And P.S., I went to David''s Bridal last weekend with a friend and she tried on all 3 tea length bridal dresses they had. They are adorable and very inexpensive. Definitely worth a look....

i think the dress deco posted would be FAB for a hippy kinda gal. swishy, swingy...hidey. hehee. those straight slim dresses seem like they might be kinda hard to fit correctly, esp with a waist nipping kind of visual accentuator. but if your body is smokin and you just have a little extra going on in the hips and have a tiny waist, the waist nippers totally show that off. for me i have more of a straight waist even though i have hips, so waist nippers just show off that i don''t have a tiny waist. hehee. but i do love the visual on the model of the dress you posted lyssie...i just don''t know what type of bod would be best to pull it off.

the dress you posted is sooo cute! I saw that one when I was looking for BM dresses and contemplated doing it in black for my BM but it was a little too much moolah then I wanted them to pay!

Hmmm. I definitely think I want an A-line dress. I''d definitely prefer to show off my waist and above...and hide the hips...because, well, even when I am happy with my weight, well, lets just say that baby got back. Lots and lots of back. And then a bit more back!

Hmmm. perhaps a bit of rethinking is in order. But who knows...I love the first dress I posted, but it is definitely going to need some altering because if it fits me in the waist it will not fit the hips. Hmmmmm. But maybe neither dress is so form fitting. hmmmmm.

Gah.

And thanks so much for your input ladies. I totally appreciate it!

I also love #2 on your list and agree the Melissa Sweet would be good for someone "hippy" but it''s also going to cost 15-25x times price of those BM dresses

Love the first one...it''s perfect. I saw it as a bridesmaid dress and thought, "Man, that would make a perfect wedding dress if I was having a more casual wedding..." So my 2cents.

Good luck!
