Not much can be done about the chip - this was just unfortunate. It may be the case that the particular diamond has a very thin girdle or some other details make it prone to chipping. A cutter could probably repair these with some loss of weight to the stone, IMO. How much cannot really be predicted before you actually show the stone to a cutter.

As far as I know, this is not very unusual - old diamonds come with chips...

Just my 0.2, of course.

thanks ana....i am going to take it to the guy who set it and see what he says

its so beautiful and i dont want it to lose much weight....i let you know what the outcome is

That sounds gorgeous! Have you thought about a bezel set? It would protect the girdle and I personally love the way an OMC looks bezel-set.

i have not heard of that.....can you show me a picture or a link?

thanks

those a gorgeous but thi chip is across the top and dont know if thise would help anymore....anyway...we had it looked at and they siad it should not chip anymore and if we cut it, it would lose half the weight

were just gonna keep it and hope it does not break in half... :-(

thanks for the suggestions

Did the jeweller say there was a chance that it would ''break in half''?

they said maybe....but the chip is not getting bigger so were gonna watch it for a little while and get a new one if we need to

you cant find a .77 mine cut anywhere

HI:

For old cuts, might you inquire after Dave Atlas? He might be your connection--doesn''t hurt to ask. Super knowledgable guy and he posts here on PS--under the name "OldMiner".

cheers--Sharon
