I almost feel ridiculous posting this email, but I''m fretting so much over my e-ring, which my bf and I have been searching for and have finally found (I think). I''ve changed my ideas about what I like and what I want a million times. The only thing that hasn''t changed is that I''m getting the same oval stone (no halo!!). The thought of getting a ring with the intention of eventually upgrading doesn''t appeal to me, so I''m trying to make a "forever" decision with this ring right now.
What''s the problem then? The last time my bf and I went to "visit" my diamond on Sat., we decided we liked it in the flush fit precision halo setting. We loved it, but the ring was set with a rb, and not an oval, so now I''ve been second guessing and hesitating and basically driving myself totally crazy. The stone is over 2 cts, so it''s not like the ring is too small without the halo, but for some reason we were drawn to it. So my decision-- the one that keeps me up at night is: Solitaire with claw prongs-- or (thin) pave halo? Oh good g-d ladies. I don''t know what to do! I''ve read all about peoples'' concerns about the halo having a limited lifespan, and my style is conservative and classic. I know it comes down to what I like, but isn''t there some formula for picking the perfect ring? Help/suggestions/drinks appreciated!

Go with a solitaire and claw prongs. It''s classic and timeless. As someone who has a halo RHR the micro pave is not suited for everyday wear IMHO. You want to wear your ring and not have to worry about it. Micro pave is pretty but very delicate.

Definitely solitaire with claw prongs!!

A stone over 2 carats can stand on its own quite nicely!!

Dont know what your posion is...
I would vote for the solitaire you say that you are conservative and classic and that is what a solitaire is. It is your choice of course, and you ought to do with which ever makes you happy. What sort of wedding band would you pair the solitaire with? Does that affect things? Good Luck!

Personallly, I LOVE the look of a solitaire with a large stone!! And I love claw prongs as well.

Oh, my poor sweet bf. He called and told me how much he loved that pave ring on me, and that that''s the one that really worked best on my hand and that he liked best out of everything I''ve tried on over the last few mos.-- (Sadly, my fingers are a little solid and sturdy, and not dainty and delicate like all your hand pics I see!) Even after I told him my qualms about the delicacy of the pave, he insists that that one was made for me. Why don''t I know what I like anymore? Why are pictures of a thousand rings swirling in my head? I just want the best possible ring for me. Why doesn''t anyone tell you that searching for an e-ring is a traumatic experience??

That does not mean that I''m making a decision yet. The claw prongs are still in the running.
Thanks so much for the words of advice so far. I really appreciate it.

Melinda,
I totally know where you are coming from. if it''s any comfort Precision Set makes a very nice quality setting. I think it''s very sweet that you BF has an opionion and you can consider what he likes too. I have been all over the place when trying to decide on a new setting. if it comes down to 2 that i like i would love for hubby to jump in and have the final say...i''m sure it will be stunning...

It''s sweet that your BF feels so strongly about the halo pave setting, but in the end you''ll be the one wearing it on a daily basis and if the solitaire "speaks" to you more, then you should let him know it. The solitaire setting is timeless and easy to wear.....you can always tell your BF that a pave halo RHR might be a nice anniversary gift someday! ;)

melinda: i can definately relate to the general feelings that you are having. i don''t know what is best for you, but i can tell you about my experiences. i thought for a long time that i wanted a micro pave halo ring. i don''t know where i first came across it, but it was before my time at pricescope and before i had ever seen something like it on a real finger. there was something unique and beautiful about it that instantly drew me to the style -- i was actually thinking about going with an oval cut...but then, after seeing some in person, trying them on, a bit of time passing, thinking about the style -- something changed for me. i knew that what i really wanted was my first love -- a step cut -- and i suprised myself this weekend by falling in love with just about the most traditional and classic setting/ring i can think of -- i want the ring to be timeless and for me that wasn''t a halo. however, i still LOVE halos and think that if life is kind to me that maybe someday in my future there it''ll be a sublime RHR.

It''s great that your boyfriend feels involved in the process, but i''m sure that he would support whatever decision you make!!!

don''t fret so much -- this is the fun stuff

I have a halo ering and I love it. I havent had any problems with the pave and my FI and i love how it looks. No ring is going to be guaranteed to always be in fashion, but if you truly love it, you will probably always love it! It is your decision and make sure its what you want. I''ve only had my ring a month but I still stop myself and say "this is perfect!" I wouldnt have said that about a solitaire, but many women would. It really is your preference, follow what speaks to you not what is trendy or not trendy! If you do that, hopefully, you will always love it!

All styles have a lifecycle and they come around again. I am so glad I had a say in my ring, if not I would have had a 3stone with ruby sidestones. I''m sure I wouldve loved it just the same, but its nice to have a say. Dont make your final decision on what he wants, but know you may always second guess yourself. There is always something beautiful and sparkly around the corner. Good luck with your decision!

I guess I''d say....the diamond is forever, but the setting doesn''t have to be.

When we became engaged, I wasn''t quite sure what I wanted my "permanent" setting to be.....so i wore my stone in a solitaire setting for 6 months. Once I tried on a bunch of things, I realized what I really wanted, and did it then. The diamond is still the same.....only the fancier setting was new.

Maybe this would be the way to go?

I went with the Bezel Halo, but with a polished band so I didn''t have the worries about "everyday" wear. The diamonds in my halo also sit a teeny bit under everything else, so they seem really protected. I love it and it''s very unique and simple.

But, the classic solitaire is also always beautiful! If you go with the micropave, just make sure that you get if from a place that has a good guarantee in case you do lose a stone!

IMHO...you have to get what you "love" because you''ll "what if" yourself to death afterwards if you don''t!
