I now have a timeline. I was moping around a couple of days ago because SO and I have bee together for 4 years, and we are still not engaged. Most of the problem is SO is currently looking for job, and finishing up his Phd. I made a comment about how I could still be waiting a year from now, and SO emphatically said that I wouldn't be. It looks like 2011 will be my year! So please send some job dust our way because that is the only thing that is stopping us right now.

I'm totally there with you on the LIWitis. I was having a bad month recently about being together almost 7 years without a proposal but I talked to my BF and feel better now. I'm glad you now have a time line. I'm sure you're feeling a lot better.

*~*~*~*~*~DUST~*~*~*~*~* I hope it happens soon!

Dust for you and to getting engaged in 2011!!!

I can totally relate, I'm in a similar boat. We have been together 5.5 years and decided about a year ago that we wanted to get engaged. 2010 passed, and no engagement. For us, it is also due to finances, so I know how incredibly frustrating that is for us LIWs. My SO and I also had a serious talk over the holidays and I got the same response that 2011 would be our year.

I'm sure it must be a relief to you that you have a timeline in place now. I'm sure your SO will make you a very happy LIW this year!! :))

Lots of dust for you!!

Congrats on him finishing up his PhD, too - that is a huge accomplishment!

I always try to hope that after the proposal, we'll all look back and laugh at our LIW-itis and realize it all turned out perfectly.

DUST!

It is nice to have a time line but it also has taken away a bit of the surprise for me though. My SO told me a while ago he'd do it by March...and well...March is fast approaching and there's not to many dates he can do it bc he travels. I hope it doesn't take away your surprise though (unless he does it early in the time frame vs later).

DUST DUST DUST!

aw hun, lots of dust!! I am right there with you. I have been atiently waiting but this past month or so - I am so anxious and dieing to get engaged. I know we couldn't afford a wedding for at least 8 months and I know that he wants a new job and his own property before the actual wedding but I am at wits end these days. I don't care about the wedding, house, and new job anymore! I just want to be engaged! Even if it was a $15 target ring I would be happy at this point.

unfortunately he knows this and disagrees. lol we have a real timeline that we both agree with but seriously - its been hard this month. Must be something in the air in January that makes us all crazy...

Can I ask why it's so important to you, when it doesn't seem like the right time in terms of life goal planning?

Well, in the words of a popular movie quote:
'when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.'

While I am picking up a judgmental tone in your question, I am going to ignore it and assume that it was the inflection I unintentionally added in my head and not true sentiment on your part. :halo:

Isn't that why we are all here? Because we have LIW-itis? It isn't the right time, we know that and that is why we have a timeline. I still want it to be the right time.

I didn't mean to be judge-y and that sums it up perfectly.

:) I figured you probably didn't :)

I only asked you specifically because you seemed to have good reasons for why now is not the right time, but your explanation makes perfect sense.
