OK, I''ve been doing a ton of research. Diamond Wholesale just called me back and spoke about a few diamonds I''d selected. The woman said that an EGL G might be more like an H or an I. Anything else we might need to know??? What do those of you in the know have to share w/ those of us who keep finding out more things to look out for everyday??

Old Miner (Dave Atlas) has a chart showing what numbers to look for to find a well cut OEC. You can use it to check out the stones you're considering. He might be on vacation, though. (Lots of jewelers are.)

Good luck! I love OECs.

Oh, so EGL is safe for round diamonds, just not for old cuts, is that right?

No. EGL isn't safe for every shape. Some stones are graded correctly, but many others are overgraded. Especially those graded by EGL Israel and Antwerp.
