I''m starting to feel a little overwhelmed, because I thought the ring that I saw last week (and loved) was way too deep, but I was just realized the proportions for ovals are totally different. Since I''m such a newbie, my heads sprinning in circles from excitement/confusion. Anyway, the stats are as follows, and the lady at the store told my b.f. that it was one of the most beautiful ovals she''s ever seen.
Again, the depth is 69.7, the table is 51 %, the culet is very small, girdle is thin to slightly thick, it''s VS2/H/Non-flor. 9.47x7.14x4.98.
Could I please get some opinions on this diamond, because I loved it.
Thanks!!!!

Here is the link to the tutorial on ovals. it may help give you some insight. One thing i want to mention is to make sure not to get too caught up with the numbers, espcially fancy shapes, it''s important to go with something that looks good to your eyes. If you love the stone you saw, it''s being sold from a reputable vendor whom you trust then you''re on the right track. you should always have an indepentent appraisal done to be sure your are purchasing exactly what they are selling.

Thanks for that tip. It''s true-- the ring made me feel wonderful, and we both loved it, but I don''t want to get stuck with something less than it''s sold as, something cloudy, too thick (which, I assume, would eventually make it appear dull), etc. This is only going to happen once, so I want to get something beatiful. With special cuts, are you saying it''s less about the cut and dimensions and more about the feeling it gives you?

cut is important but it''s harder to tell if you have a great oval or fancy shape just using the numbers, what your eyes see is very important. if you do a search here, type in ovals, a whole bunch of threads will pop up with some great info. i know you''ll want to watch out for the bow tie effect. I wish I could be more help but i really don''t know that much about ovals. Hopefully, one of the experts will chime in and can give you an idea on your numbers.

Hi -

I just recently bought an oval with depth percentage of 67 - I was worried before I saw it that it would be too deep, but I absolutely love it. There is very little bow tie, which the extra depth avoids, and the stone still looks pretty big. The first response to your post is definitely right on with fancies. You have to see them in person to make sure they have the sparkle and color that you want.

Good luck!!
