It''s snowing at my house here in Houston, (9:16am Friday) Unreal!!

This is the earliest snow ever - I think.

I know this seems like a non-event for you Northern folks, but this is a big deal for those
of us living down here in the swamps !!!!

I used to live in Lubbock when I was about 2 or 3 and it snowed! I made the cutest little snowman EVER and then we went to the grocery store and when we came home it had melted

So enjoy your snow while you can!

Hasnt even snowed in Michigan yet...

I wish the northerners would relax with all the hate. IT IS a big deal here!! LOL. Our horses might freeze. (Being from a different country and living in IL before moving to Texas, I fell into the "do they ride horses" category. Not anymore though, considering Houston is the 4th largest city in the country, full of ENGINEERS and, GASP, DOCTORS!!!)

It''s like a hurricane happening to them!

Yeah it snowed in Dallas on Wednesday. All my friends and family in Chicago were shocked that I moved to Texas and still got snow before them!

I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvve it!!!
9.gif

It already stopped here, but I think there is more to come around 2pm.

I remember last year when it snowed for a few hours. Big beautiful flakes! And I was so excited to go to Maine and have it snow, but it never did. How weird that the only snow I saw last year was here in Houston. lol.

We had snow stick on Monday morning, and you would think we had an inch of ice on the road based on the way people were driving!

It''s just cold here - just hit freezing a few minutes ago.

Lauren, to me that''s the funniest part about when it snows in the south. People have no idea what to do! We''re going to a comedy club tonight with a bunch of friends and my DH just called me to warn me that people might bail because of the snow. It''s not even sticking! I laughed so hard. It''s called turning on your wipers.

I got to my office builiding in downtown at 8, and it hasn't stopped snowing here yet.

It just picked up again, so it doesn't look like it will be letting up around here anytime soon.

ETA: I can understand why driving in the South is harder than the north considering the fact that everything that melts turns to ice overnight... however, I would rather drive in the snow than in some of the horendous thunderstorms that Texas can have.

LTP, driving in North Texas the morning after a bad ice is one of the scariest things ever! Not just because of the overpasses, but the people just don't know what they are doing!

DH and I are headed to the Hill Country today after work for a wedding this weekend, and we FULLY plan on attending the Chritmas Festival we have been planning for since mid October! I am so excited for it to be snowing while we are there! I just hope we can get out of town, without Houston blocking half the highways.

I know one of the issues I have driving when the groud is wet, especially when it''s POURING rain, is that I can''t see the lane lines! That makes things tricky, when you have morons who don''t signal. It''s like that thing on the side of the steering wheel is some kind of nostalgic accessory!

Considering, if there IS ice on the road, it wouldn''t be pelasant without something to melt the ice...even though it will melt soon enough.

I plan on going to the gym later and Austin tomorrow, so...maybe the older folks and people who lived here all their life are a little freaked out.

I''d much rather drive in the snow than a thunderstorm, as long as there is no ice on the road.
Do you Houstonians remember when we had snow on Christmas Eve in ''05. Now that, was a miracle !!

The snow has let up here, but still a few flakes here and there.

Only every time I see the picture in my IL''s house of DH''s ex''s car parked in front of their house when they took the picture...
20.gif

I mean REALLY?? You didn''t take any other pictures of the snow that DIDN''T have her car in them??

I didn''t live here, but I am reminded...

I just got back from driving to Houston Hobby airport and the snow was pounding down on my way there. Just couldn''t believe it!! Brrrr, it''s cold!

The reason why I think it''s funny that people might bail on the comedy show is because everyone lives within 2-3 miles of us (and the venue) and will not have to get on any highways or crazy windy roads to get here. Though I will admit that growing up in Maine has perhaps tainted my view on driving in snow. This is a baby storm compared to what I''m used to. In high school I drove a car with with horrible brake, and I literally had to slap on the brake about 30 ft away from where I wanted to stop. That made for a fun winter. haha. Yes, my mother did eventually find out and yell at me.

I agree with Meresal and Bebe about the rain down here. MUCH worse in my opinion. I''d rather be surrounded with overly cautious drivers (in snow) than a bunch of speeding jerks in massive trucks who think the rain won''t affect them. My favorite is when they cut you off and so much water hits your windshield that you''re literally blinded for a few seconds....while on the freeway. I''ve actually called out of work before to avoid driving on the freeway during a storm.

Have to agree with luckystar, the storms down can be treacherous to drive in, unless you are in an 18-wheeler and basically own the road.
Last year I was driving from Austin to Houston (on Hwy 290 for those who know) it was storming big time, heavy, heavy rain, you couldn''t even see the road,
high winds, lightning - just awful. I was in my Vette, driving maybe 15-20mph, a caravan of 18-wheelers continued to play cat and mouse with me
for miles and miles. Everytime they passed, the force of their water spray pushed me off the road. I finally pulled over and waited til I thought
they were miles ahead of me. One would think the drivers of those rigs would know what their trucks do to cars they pass - I mean really, do they even care !!

It''s still snowing downtown, Hard.

I am actually sitting here giggling to myself, because my building is completely surrounded in windows and I feel like I''m living in a snow globe. Every where I look, there is snow circling!

Okay, I''m jealous!! I''m off of 249 (towards Tomball) and it''s not snowing bad here at ALL. It''s like little flurries. You can''t even make it out from the window, you have to go outside to see it. I want BIG SNOW!!!!
39.gif
Is it sticking???

I just turned on the news and saw images of downtown, Richmond and Pearland. Ya''ll are getting way more snow and way bigger flakes than me!!! Grrrrrr. I''m gonna go take a drive. I feel shafted! lol

It is so pretty down here! I wish you werwe all experiencing this!

Here is a cell phone pic from my office window Downtown. It is not good though, this is when it was whipping by from the wind and the flakes look a lot smaller than they actually are. I will go outside and get a better one!

ETA: It is definitely NOT sticking to all the concrete around my building, however I assume over by the park (across from G.R.B) it looks gorgeous! I'll see if I can swing by there on my way out of downtown today and get some pictures.

oops.

Goodness gracious Mer! That''s real snow! It all but stopped here. I wonder what direction it''s heading in? I swear if I have to drive to see snow I will! lol

It''s starting to come down harder in the west, (Westheimer, Beltway 8).

This is awesome. Just waiting for it to stick.

I agree about driving in the rain. At least I still have visibility in the snow. Just three days ago, driving home was tough because I couldn''t see in the rain.

I don''t know if my area is going to experience that type of snow at all. I just went to weather.com and it looks like the storm is moving northeast. I live in the northwest so I may have seen the best of it already. I''m totally bummed!

I swear I live in the weirdest area. This past summer when everyone was freaking out about no rain, we literally went 3 months without rain! The storms just went around us the whole time. It was awful. So now the snow wants to dodge us too. Boo!

Lucky, I swear you should just drive to downtown to see it! Simply Gorgeous!

These flakes are huge! The small ones are probably the size of a dime and the big ones have to be almost a quarter in diameter.

I can no longer see buildings that are more than two blocks away. That is how thick the fall is! Here is a picture of what used to be my view north. It is all white-out now.

Downtown Snow 12.4.09.JPG

Okay I may just wait it out. I just turned on the weather on channel 2 and they are saying that the snow is going to cover a much wider area in the next few hours. Apparently downtown isn''t even getting the worst of it! I''m gonna go do a snow dance!

Crazy!! We haven''t even gotten any snow and I''m in Chicago! The weather here has been unseasonably warm all of November.

I hope you guys know how to drive in the snow!

And the ICING on the CAKE....

Our building managers are telling everyone to leave their offices by no later than 3, but my boss just stopped by and told me to leave whenever I felt comfortable with my work, as long as I am out within the next hour!!!!!

LUCKY!!!! Not that it''s coming down as hard as it was a little while ago, but...working in the industry I do, and for the company I do, where SAFETY is what it''s all about, it would be a real Christmas miracle if they let us out early!

we just got snow last night! I''m up in Grand Rapids MI though. It''s weird that this is the first time its snowed... it was really gorgeous early this morning: freshly fallen snow, the sun was out, the sky was a beautiful blue, the air was crisp but not windy, the clouds were fluffy and gorgeous. Everything a beautiful winter day should be. then came the wind and more lake effect snow
