Despite living less than two miles from the explosions, and despite it being right next to gym and office, I was not injured in the events of the Boston marathon. Some of you know that I live in central Boston and go to E.B. Horn all the time, so I wanted to reassure you that I will live to post another day!

That's great news Smith! I didn't know you lived in Boston. I hope all your loved ones are safe as well. You are all in my thoughts.

Oh good, I remembered you were in Boston! Thanks for the reassurance

Good to hear you're ok.

Why did I think you were an expat living in London?? Who is that then?? Lol

Whew!

Smith, glad you're safe and sound! Sorry this happened and so close to where you live. Very sad and disturbing.

Thankful to hear you are safe! It is really a terrible, terrible thing.

I am glad you are safe; my heart goes out to the friends and family of this tragedy.

So sad, what is wrong with people? Glad you are fine!

Smith glad to hear you're ok xo

Looking forward to those future posts! :wink2:

That said, I'm sure this tragedy hits you much harder than it does those of us who are following it from afar, if only because it's your hometown and places that are part of your routine that were hit... and for you, there will be no escape from the coverage or discussion. Please, do take care of yourself through this.

ETA you too, NEL!

Thanks, everyone.

Yes, VR, it's crazy here. I live between the location of the bombs and Mass General, so emergency vehicles and sirens have been rushing past my flat all afternoon and early evening. Tomorrow I need to go on the T in rush hour. So not looking forward to that.

I was not one of the people who knew where you lived, but I am very glad to know that you are safe!

Hugs,

Thank heavens you are alright!! Just catching snippets as we travel from place to place in NYC, so don't quite know what all happened and why, but so relieved to know you are safe! Take care, Smith. Be safe.

Good to hear you are safe and okay - I didn't realise you lived there either.

We got the news pretty quickly here in Australia, it is such a terrible thing and I keep thinking about the poor little
boy who was killed whilst waiting for his Dad to finish the race - it just breaks your heart.

:((

Take care and be safe!

Thank you for posting some actual news related to it. The media have just been going over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over the same events and video footage since yesterday afternoon. I believe they have set a new standard for mindless repetition. You are the first report to add any actual information that we didn't already know. I'm glad you are safe.

(Any and all sarcasm is directed solely at the news media and their incessant harping and yapping. I swear it has even surpassed the 911 terrorist attacks. )

I am glad that you are ok. I have to say that I am just saddened by this. It's really horrifying to me that I feel I have to be relieved and happy that I go to sleep at night and wake up every day lucky to have not experienced such an event. This stuff happens FAR too frequently in this world.

Glad you're OK. Thinking of you & everyone affected x

Smith, are you stuck inside your house? Are the streets empty? Are you OK?

I am inside my house but my bloody husband has merrily ventured forth, out and about as usual. He has a total blind spot to danger. And yes the streets are emptier than usual.

ETA: Doorbell just rang. I followed police directive not to answer it.

There are some helicopters circling outside now.

Silly husband! Mine would probably do the same.
Stay safe Smith. :wavey:

He never sees any danger - he's been known to wander around South Beach, Miami alone in the dead of night! He came in and then went out again, but has promised to stay in our neighborhood.

The bin men have only just arrived to pick up the rubbish. Usually they come at 6am.

Different situation in Watertown. Everyone in my nephew's building was locked into it and unable to leave. Radio said there was a house to house search and that some homes had been searched twice. By lunch hour, for whatever reason, directives had moved further out. Not only were people in Boston being told to stay inside, but train service between my area in Connecticut and Boston was shut down and police in my town were sending out bulletins about picking up children early from school. I was at lunch with two friends and one went to get her son. Confusion and concern. Connecticut State Police reported that the suspect was in a Honda with MA license plates.

Apparently the lockdown is for the whole of Boston now, but I live right in the centre and no one is outside to stop me leaving. My husband reports that many of the shops and restaurants on our street are closed. I admit to nipping out to the 7-11. I needed bread and milk. I'm still here though!
