I am planning on purchasing a .3ish carat / I color range Legacy, I didn't want to spend so much initially 5-6k, but Tiffany's Upgrade Policy steered me to the original cause the plan was to get her this ring later (10 year anniversary), but if I can upgrade to a larger version than why not get the smaller one now and use those dollars to a larger size later? So legacy Owners, a few questions:

-Have you upgraded your legacy, how was that process with tiffanys? I can't find any printed policy in regards their the upgrade policy. Just verbals from sales people.

-Did you haggle at all?

-Does the ring come with guarantees for diamond loss/loose? I'd figure probably not.

-Do they really clean the ring when ever you drop it off for free?

-Any big benefits I'm missing?

And yes I realize that I'm paying around 2k extra for the tiffany name, but I can't find a platinum setting of that quality for much less that 3k.

Thanks!

I haven't upgraded and don't intend to, but we were told you have to spend twice the amount of the original ring and I think you can only upgrade once. But I was reading a thread here recently about a lucky girl who had traded in her Soleste like three times. And you should keep in mind diamond price increases as well. My ring is being sold at $2400 more now than it was two years ago.

Haggling is a waste of time in our mere mortal price range- they won't budge.

We were reasured that "Tiffany stands by their quality... blah, blah, blah" and in short, they said as long as there is no trauma evident on the ring, they will repair/replace loose melee. Unfortunately, I do not have this in writing. I know it's not saying much, but I've had my ring almost two years now without any problems.

Yes, they clean your ring for you every time, but so would most reputable jewelers. I do not see this as a perk.

Honestly, there really aren't any big perks that coem to mind. The only reason to buy this ring there is the fact that you can't get that cut any where else. And any slightly comparable cuts are branded cuts too, which in the end won't really save a ton of money when set in a good handforged setting. But, if you like asschers and feel they are similar enough, you can totally stick an asscher into a cast setting and save lots of money.

Good luck with your decision!

What is your budget, what is the size you were eventually going to get her and does she like the Legacy style, Legacy cut diamond or is the Tiffany name more important? If we know that, we can assist you further. Honestly, not sure you can even see the cut in a .3 carat - I just received my .34 diamond for earrings and all I see is "sparkle" - not any facets or cut style.

If the name is most important to you - feel free to purchase it. Or if you live in europe or some asian countries where larger diamonds are seen as "showy".

If you are drawn to the reassurance of quality and "cleaning your ring", that is available at other PS approved vendors who offer better value. Any jeweler in the world will clean your ring for free if you walk in their store. You can also purchase an ultrasonic cleaner and Dawn dishwashing liquid or Ammonia-free Mr. Clean for $60 total. A $3000 setting still leaves you $3000 for a nice stone if your budget is $6k.

In that range, you have a .73 August Vintage cushion H color for $3200 - http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/9411/
A .6 Brellia H&A cut for $2775 - http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/8510/
A .86 Jubilee for $3200 - http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/9440/

ERD has a great legacy replica, btw - www.engagementringsdirect.com

And if you're thinking - hey, look at YOUR avatar, Miss Fancy Pants! Who are you telling to save money? That giant ring cost $4300.
