My first post here! I am looking for an engagement ring, but not exactly traditional. Looking for something nice, and not too bling. Recently started reading posts on PS and noticed that there is consensus that Tiffany and Cartier diamonds are over priced, but perhaps worth the setting. I like the names, and I think she does too, but I am curious what everyone things about the non-engagement type of settings and whether they are worth the price. And are these smaller diamonds over priced?

Specifically, I am looking at Tiffany Celebration ring with diamonds and sapphires - 3mm, platinum, alternating diamond and sapphire all around, about $5k. And a Cartier Love ring, 4mm, white gold, 8 diamonds, about $3k.

What do you thing, are these rocks overpriced?

Here''s the Tiffany one.

Tiffany and cartier are always overpriced, but if your gf like the brand name and the experience and sentiment associated with the purchase, then you should buy her what she likes.

If it was me though, for 3K i would rather have this setting with this diamond, i think it's much better value, classic not too blingly, and get the bands you suggested as a wedding band or anniversary band. but if your gf really does not like the traditional type engagement ring you should get her what she likes

What does she want?? Best to find out... Your idea could be far away from hers... Just saying..

Well I know she will like these, or something similar. So my question isn''t so much about taste or name (although nice name helps!). Let me try to be more clear. I really have two questions:

1) I have seen a lot of posts on here about how it''s cheaper to get diamonds elsewhere. But I am wondering if that applies to just the bigger centerpiece stones, or if it would still apply to these smaller stones. So would it still be a 30% or so premium even for these small stones?

2) I have also read Tiffany and Cartier settings are very good, and may be worth the premium. Maybe I misread, but that is the impression I got. I like both of these rings because of the design, and I also care about quality. So in terms of quality of the ring itself (and I expect these to be worn everyday for a long time), are these worth the premium?

Thanks you all for your feedback.

If you like the Tiffany one, you can get a better deal at www.thefacetscollection.com

I have to second this idea. My 2 Facet eternity bands are extremely well made. And a
very well known jeweler even said so !

Tiffany and Cartier will charge you more just for their name, regardless of diamond size. I''d get something similar elsewhere for a better price.

This Tiffany piece is more generic and could be bought elsewhere. The Cartier ring is one of their iconic pieces. If you choose this ring, I would stay with the original.

I am a HUGE cartier fan and have several pieces from the love collection and I am getting my wedding band from them. Despite this I would not get the love ring with the diamonds. In my opinion it does not show the screw aspect which is what it is famous for, it just looks like diamonds in a band. Also has your FI tried on bands before as 4 mm is pretty thick and I found that particular ring somewhat uncomfortable. If you really want the cartier name, maybe get the other band where the diamonds line the whole band and the screw aspect still looks like what it is.

Ditto this.

I''d rather spend my hard earned money on the best possible components and workmanship I can find, rather than spending a dime on a "name". A name has absolutely no value to me. Diamond cut quality, diamond weight and clean perfect construction mean everything. It would be a good idea to visit some of our preferred vendors websites and compare.

I have a facets eternity too, and I think they are well made as well. The diamonds are very nice. With the money you save, you could buy a ring with larger stones, or even two. The price difference is THAT
great. You also have a 30 day return policy. You could get the ring and then take it to Tiffany''s and compare!

Thanks all for your help. Still have not decided. The search continues!
