Greetings...

You all helped me out a great deal when I purchased my engagement ring last summer, and I now have a buddy who is looking for an ER and I offered to help. Unfortunately, all my research went into round brilliant stones, and he is looking for a marquise center stone.

His budget all told is about 3,500$ USD for setting and stone. He found a setting he likes locally for an estimated 1,000$, so I'm limiting my search to just the center stone for ~2k - 2.5k.

Guessing there is a sweet spot for marquise stones, but I'd be curious what some pros here would do with a 2k-2.5k budget, looking to get the best bang for their buck.

He was quoted a stone at a jewelry store that was "H SI1" and a bit over a carat, to go with the setting he chose for ~3300$. I'm very suspicious that this stone had to be graded by Joe's Diamond Shack, since that doesn't seem to jive with what I'm seeing online.

Anyhow, what say you? :)

Is he open to buying on ebay IF it has a GIA report? I've gotten some fantastic deals on marquises on ebay.

I found two good potentials.. both F. Let me know when you're online and I'll post the link.

I know that marquise stones are not "in" and so are much cheaper than RBs for weight...but I don't know anything beyond that.

Thanks, can't wait to see! :)

Have you tried emailing Adam and Old World Diamonds? I wonder if he might be able to find one for you. Also, antique marquis cuts are lovely and may provide you more band for your buck

Also, Israel Rose has a bunch of marquis rings (if you search for marquis in the search box on their site). Not sure if they sells stones separate from the rings but might be worth an ask

And here's a pretty one if you're into yellow diamonds

He is getting some pretty shady treatment from the store he is working with - if it was me I'd drop them in a second (telling him that it was GIA certed, then saying that their GIA-certified guy gave it the appraisal and that the GIA cert was "going to happen" but hadn't happened yet, lol). Anyhow, he mostly is in love with the setting, and frankly he doesn't seem to care much about the stone. A bit frustrating, but I guess everyone is different.

Here is the setting that he loves, and unfortunately I haven't found a direct analogue from one of the respected online vendors. I'd muchly love to suggest a .8ct or so nice marquise from JA or similar, but it'd help if I could find somewhere that I could get this/a similar setting.

Any ideas, oh wise ones?
