I took my 0.71ct SI-1 Blue Nile ring in to get it appraised, and the appraiser said there is a small feather that breaches the faceted girdle. I got all freacked out due to reading other posts on here, so I phoned him back up to ask if he thinks it''s a big deal. He said if it were him, he wouldn''t worry, and that it would have to get hit really hard to break, and that would be true of any stone. He also said that he could try to hide it under one of the prongs if I wish. My question is this...should I return the stone to BN, and get a VS stone, and pay the difference (about $700-1000) or just have the feather placed under the prong, and stop worrying so much? Either way the ring will be insured...

Thanks.

Sounds like you''re in good shape...that''s what insurance is for.

Thanks Gary, I appreciate your help. Anyone else? I really love the diamond, but I''m a worry wort...

If you are open to returning it and finding something else give us your budget. There may be something better out there. You want to be 100% satisfied with your purchase and not worry about chipping it.

My budget is $3000-4000 Canadian, and the problem I face is that a lot of places have roadblocks for ordering from Canada...like tax''s/ duty etc... Plus, I am really set on the setting I got from Blue Nile, and they don''t sell the settings seperatly. I''m worried about the stone due to the fact that my girlfriend is very clumsy, and I''d always be worried about her breaking the stone. The feather in the ring I got is set just to the side of one of the prongs that would face either the finger tip/ arm depending on how it is worn. If I send it back, I will be at a $190 loss for the tax''s etc... and don''t want to be losing that kind of money if another stone doesn''t work out again.
