Hi :)

I currently have a pair of lovely tiny .16 tcw platinum bezel diamond studs.

This summer I am looking to get a pair that is a bit bigger. I don’t know which size though. And I’m very interested in your opinions on the quality criteria depending on the size !

Criteria :
European => smaller « standards » thankfully ! (+ Only European vendors)
Budget : Maximum $2000
I would love to actually choose the diamonds ! But it’ll be ok if I can’t.
Bezel setting in rose gold :)
I like dainty ! But I would like them to last at least the first half of my thirties :)

What do you think ? :)

If it was down to me, I would get a pair from WF in non-bezel set setting with the aim to add a pair of diamond earring jackets from them at a later stage as an upgrade without breaking the piggy bank.

DK :))

Thank you :)
I can’t do WF though (I wish, for the upgrade policy), I’m in Europe (England atm but that may change).
I really want my rose gold bezels though :), for the warmth they bring :)

Thèse are my .16 :) I don’t know if it helps to have an idea of my earlobe size :)6D040B2F-92E8-4C73-AB93-1599E646061C.png

Just remember diamond shrinkage is a real thing and it happens sooner them you think
and i don't live in the US

Yes, diamond shrinkage is what I meant by a size that would fit for at least a couple of years !

I brought diamond studs in the last couple of years
Now i can't remenber the size
I think 1ctw
I would go and look for the paperwork but it will depress me reminding myself how i grossly overpaid

Anyway i only started wearing them last year
and it took about a week for them to be too small

I have small ears and small lobes

Diamond shrinkage syndrome is kind of a mind thing - but it does seem to effect almost all PCers at some stage

Even if you just buy say the next two sizes up i would recommend at least looking into it and trying them on (if that's the done thing where you live )

Yes I would definitely try them on !
I didn’t have any issues with my current size for years.. then, it just hit :)

I can't help with vendors since I'm in SE Asia, but perhaps 0.40 or 0.50 tcw might be to your tastes? You've quite dainty earlobes! I agree with @Daisys and Diamonds, simple studs and then diamond jackets later on if you're so inclined... But if you feel more comfortable with bezels, there's nothing wrong with those too!

Chiming in as well on DSS (diamond shrinkage syndrome): though not quite diamonds, I bought myself a pair of MRB moissanite earrings around 5.5 mm last year. When I first had them I thought they looked HUGE on me, in fact I was thinking about setting 0.40 tcw MRB diamonds into studs to replace the moissy earrings. Glad I didn't... because now the 5.5mm look normal to me! :lol-2:

Over on the pearl pages we have also discovered pearl shrinkage is a thing :lol-2: :boohoo: :(2

I am in UK and import jewellery all the time as nearly everything in UK is so expensive! Personal preferences and all that.

RG is tricky enough, and bezel set earrings are not common, therefore, RG bezel is almost certain to be difficult to find, and you may need to go down the custom route.

Good luck with your search.

A jeweler once told me that diamond earrings or pendant don't have to be VS quality. SI1 or SI2 color H or better would be appropriate. No one is looking as closely as they would be looking at a diamond ring.

well, if you want rose gold bezels I think you can buy warmer diamonds. I have a pair of smaller earrings set in rose gold bezels. I bought K, faint brown stones. Here is a photo of the earrings. They are just about 1.1 ctw. To me, they look plenty white. I found the stones on Blue Nile and they have pretty good proportions. But I did have the bezels custom made. It was very hard to find stock bezel settings in rose, if I remember correctly. Additionally, I also had a pendant made in a rose bezel and that was an M color stone, faint brown. It also appears pretty white. Photo below. I'm a fan of lower color stones, faint brown, in rose gold if you are on a budget. So if you could buy ctw of say around .60 or so in warmer stones, you could probably also have the settings made and stay in your budget. Also, the bezels do make the stones look larger so the earrings would last you for a while, or longer. I like my smaller bezel set earrings and wear them as often as I do my larger prong set stones.

I didn’t realize importing may be a better deal !

The custom route would probably take up money that I don’t want to spend on it, as I want really simple smooth bezels, it’s a shame !

Those are lovely :) !
Yes, I was sort of hoping for that reply : that I could do warmer colored stones with a rose gold bezel :)

I have to say I’m questioning my bezels a bit now, because it seems like they would add so much extra complication, so limit the choices, and money if I have to go custom.

Also, I’m wondering about the versatility. I’m really liking your jackets idea !!

In general, it feels like my budget is more suited to regular studs without bezels. Which is fine in itself, as long as they are MRB, the idea of little diamonds that float and shine on their own appeals to me as well :). And, again, the jackets idea is really cool :)

Tiffany has their DBTY (which are my.16) in rose gold bezels. But I was finding them expensive !! It was ok for .16 (and it was before a lot of price increases), and at the time I was obsessed with Tiffany, but although I still like them I’m happy to change now

This is fun :)

so if you don't do bezels, would you still want rose gold? And would you want martini settings, 4 prong, six prong?

No, if I don’t do bezels I would go for the total white look I think, based on the pictures I have seen here ! Ideally 6 prong !

Thank you :)

Re: Rose Gold, as the earrings are not going to be that big, would one be able to see the warmth of the RG?

Personal preferences and all that, however, I do not believe the colour of RG would be that noticeable to worth the extra to go down the custom route myself.

I have small stud earrings from diamonds by me.

Link is from their Dutch website, but they sell throughout Europe IIRC. They won’t let you choose the stones though. Just the general quality :cool2:

I wouldn’t give up on your dream of rose gold bezel studs just yet. If you don’t mind modern cut diamonds try 77 diamonds. Their standard bezel setting (Luna) comes in rose gold and you get to pick your own diamonds (all be it from their inventory) https://www.77diamonds.com/diamond-earrings/diamond-studs?item=473&metal=2&shape=1&stone=1
They have show rooms in both Manchester and London if you want to see the stones before they set them.

You could also try blue Nile too

Take a look at Blue Nile if you’re not comfortable with importing. People here can help you pick stones and I think you’d easily find a nice pair of 1ctw in budget (depending if budget is in pounds or dollars, though?) They don’t have rose gold settings, sadly.

My daily wear to work studs are 0.33ctw and my wear outside work studs are 1ctw (cooldiamonds.com)- the latter attract a lot of attention as virtually no one around me has any decent sized diamonds! (UK too). And I’m in my 50’s……..

I’m a bit obsessed with one of the English brands :), and I just saw they had 6 prongs which I really like

What do you think ? I quite like the .30ct size although I can go up to .50, it would be a matter of trying them on I imagine !
Are they expensive for the size ?
I have two other earrings from them and they’re awesome, but not diamonds

What do you think of the 6 prong setting in general for a small size ? The idea is I worry that with 4 they would look square!

Thank you :)

I also prefer daintier jewelry so I just bought myself a pair of .83 cttw studs from WF. I agonized over .83 or 1 cttw and I’m actually very happy with the size. That may change in the future but there is the upgrade policy which is nice. Here they are paired with my little studs from Costco. 220ED576-CE26-41CC-A081-612231802E82.jpeg
