I bought a DBTY necklace and I'm returning it :( It was an excellent price and the 5 stones were very clear and large. Only they didn't sparkle. I noticed the pavilion on them all just came down to a point instead of - well.... faceted. They were about 3.8mm each. Is there a name for this cut? Besides bad? :read:

The pavilion on all modern round brilliants go down to a point. DBTY stones should show the crown on one side and the pavilion on the other. Are you saying they were smooth on the pavilion side and no facets on the pavilion?

Do you have close up pictures? Are you sure they are even diamonds?

I'm a bit confused as well! I've done DBTY purchases and usually I can attribute the "less sparkly" thing to the nature of the piece. (Multiple smaller stones with less of an emphasis on size and clarity, etc.). I however am puzzled by your description. Most modern rounds have pointed culets rather than faceted. The pavilion itself should be faceted (specifically with 24 of them).

Interested to hear more.

I'm sorry it wasn't what you wanted! Some returns are more bittersweet than others. :read:

Single cut maybe?
Small single cuts if well cut would have larger fire than a full cut however.
But if they are not well cut that would explain it.

Diamonds this size in a bezel its going to take spotlighting or sunlight to make them show fire single cut or full.

Sorry - I have a hard time explaining things. I've searched some more. I guess it would be minor faucets according to Good Old Gold.

On the small diamonds it didn't look like they had any, they just all came down to the culet.

According to Hearts On Fire, they had this to say:

So, is there any benefit to having extra facets on the crown or the pavilion? The answer is “no,” because if you add more facets to the crown you are actually cramming more facets into the same amount of space and by doing so they would have to be smaller. Smaller facets mean smaller windows and less light...not more.

Mine were just a bunch of tiny VVVV for the pavilion. Where my 1 carat is faceted. Does that make sense?
