Slashing regulations

I can't think of a single Federal Regulation that impedes a business with less than 50 employees- I'm most familiar with the diamond and jewelry business though- maybe in other sectors.

From my perspective, if the current administration had any concern about small business they'd have moved to the center, as opposed to making polarizing moves that have left a large percentage of the buying public extremely uncomfortable.

Trump doesn't care. He only cares that it looks good to his base that he is "slashing regulations". My husband works for The Federal Reserve Board. They are not part of The Federal Government and are not bound by the directives of Trump (or any president). However, in a spirit of collegiality, they, also, have stopped issuing regulations. So the banks will now, not be getting new regulations due to Trump. That may hurt 'the little people". Just as the people will be hurt as their water and air fail to be regulated. Trump is sure the people's champion (irony intended). We can all go back to the era before the Progressive Era, before Upton Sinclair exposed the meatpacking industry (and Sinclair Lewis wrote It Can't happen Here.) We can all close our eyes to pollution and poisoning and cancer clusters and let corporate greed run wild. Let the billionaires have everything the way they did in The Gilded Age!

"Cutting two regulations for everyone one introduced" is kind of meaningless when regulations can have multiple requirements or be broader instead of narrower. Also, it does not say that regulations must be repealed prior to introducing new regulations, only that they must be identified for repeal. Which is... vague. Very vague. In order to repeal regulations there's a whole process that has to be gone through. It's not clear whether they have to actually get through the process or not. So without seeing it actually implemented, so far it seems like the immigration ban - fluff that does nothing of substance, just looks good to people who don't bother to know about details.

As well, attempting to undo Dodd-Frank will do nothing but hurt the average person (and small businesses).

I think small businesses struggling and going out of business has more to do with the 2008 recession (I know in my area many folded then), the rise of the internet, and depressed wages affecting consumer behavior.

This is different- in 2008 there was a disruption in business- and many small business were hurt. In the past 8 years many local business were adversely affected by the internet. This is different. From what I can see, a large percentage of the world is not ....comfortable. Such unease discourages discretionary purchases.
I have friends in the wine business, they're doing great. It's a great time to get drunk apparently.
The jewelry business......not so much. All I hear is crying........

Will the USA end up like China where the rich get richer and the poor stays poor due to the removal of controls and regulations? The air, land, and water supply become polluted, giving rise to more illnesses, cancers, and diseases? I don't know but I do know that I don't have a good feeling about this.

Yeah, I believe you entirely on that. I had been speaking about, I guess, the general perception that small businesses are doing badly right now because of regulatory burdens, versus doing badly because of various other factors. Most people I know are financially hunkering down right now in preparation of the wtf that is surely to come. I just watched all the Texas business orgs freak out about the proposed tariff on Mexico - so much of our state's economy depends on free trade with them, not to mention how the tariff being passed on to consumers would impact overall buying. It's nuts.

True distracts- it's amazing how an offhand statement by POTUS can impact businesses.
2016 was a pretty tough year in general for the diamond business......but it's looking like paradise compared to what seems to be coming down the pike......
Big Yellow Taxi:(
( for those non Joni Mitchell fans- "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone.......)

But if POTUS can get rid of all those nasty environmental regs, at least we'll have....dirty water and air too
