Hello all!

I recently got engaged -- the ring was a size 6, way too big EXCEPT for going over my ridiculously oversized knuckles, where it felt "just right".

I ran to the jeweler, they sized my finger to a 5 1/2 (although I blame myself for the following as I was rishing and I have never worn rings before so I didn''t know how tight the thing should be)

In a comedy of errors, the ring was ready 2 days after it was supposed to be; I had to pick it up late, I was in a rush, it seemed fine...a little tight going over the knuckle. Again, I was in a rush...this is not their fault.

So I need to go back because it spins all over my finger and it does not stay in place "vertically" -- I''m worried because any smaller around and it won''t fit over my knuckle.

It''s a very very delicate band, so I don''t know what options I have.

Any advice? Should I go another 1/2 size smaller and lube up my finger before removing/putting on.

Thank you all in advance...this is stressing me out for no apparent reason. I''m sure there''s a solution!

Jackie

The knuckle dictates the minimum acceptable size. A good jeweler is the one to size the ring and should not let you tell them a number for a finger size. Let the jeweler, one who is experienced, judge the proper smallest size limit. It may be a loose fit once on. You can use a ring guard inside the ring that can be added. Otherwise, you may need a hinged shank that opens and closes like a bangle bracelet. These are not durable and always problematic.

Try adding a couple of beads on the lower inside of the shank...
I saw some pictures of this option somewhere on PS posts..

I had the exact same problem. I first had shank pads added. They really did not stop the spinning at all. They just seemed to make the ring harder to get on/off. Some people have great success with them. Here is a picture.

I had them removed and had a horseshoe sizer put it. It was the best decision I have ever made. The sides are very flexible and expand outward when the ring goes over the knuckle. Then they pop back into place when the ring is on to hold it upright. It works like a dream for me.

Hello! My bf told me to go choose a variety of engagement rings that he could pick from to surprise me. While I''ve been shopping around, I''ve gotten three different rings sizes at three different places: 5.5, 6, & 6.5

How in the heck am I supposed to know what size I wear??

That horseshoe sizer is neato! Was it very expensive to do that? I have had the beads before, and they stopped the spinning problem. My sister has them as well, and they have caused her no problems. Good luck.

oldminer, what are the typical problems with these hinged-shanks?

I''m another one of those "fat knuckle, skinny finger" people, so I feel your pain. I was sized at a 5 but I went with a 5.25 e-ring, and I''m glad I did... it is a bit loose on my finger, but I''ve gotten used to it... and I never worry about it falling off because I know my knuckle will stop it. I think if it ever really started to bother me I''d go with a horseshoe sizer though. My only real concern is at our wedding ceremony, when my fiance has to put the wedding band on my finger... it takes some serious maneuvering to get rings on and off... I think I''m going to have to do it for him!
