Hi All,

Does anyone here know if they were informed or read somewhere what size the sizing balls come in? I think I was given misinformation & so just looking to get the right information...you know how we are around here...sticky for details....Let me tell you why I want to know...

I took my rings in to get sizing balls put in. They only need to go down a 1/4 size from 5 3/4 down to 5 1/2. The guy I went to said the balls only came in 1mm and 2mm sizes. We determine that 1mm would be the right size since only going down 1/4 size. Went to pick the rings up, the bench had put in 2mm balls, and were put out too far to the side that they were digging into the side of my bone of my finger. (perhaps if closer together, wouldnt have been so painful). Mistake #1, wrong size. So off they go again to get the 1mm balls put in. When I went to pick them up, they in fact were NOT balls, but flattened peices of platinum, slightly rounded to fit into the width of the ring. Mistake #2. Again, out too far to the side and not resting into the fatty underpart of my finger. I am rather angry and upset because I was led to think that the 1mm would in fact be BALLS, not man-made peices of platinum stuck inside. To make it worse, is that the sizes of these peices arent even the same uniform size a ball would have. I didnt want to cut up my ring for 1/4 size but I may have to just go that route & size it properly. I did find someone that uses a lazer welder & so far there is no damage. Needless to say, my friend who was looking to size her eternity, wont be taking her rings to the bozo I am taking mine to.

Are manufacturers able to buy sizing balls in various sizes? I think the 1 mm would work out ok if they were uniform. What would you guys do, go ahead & size the rings properly or would you put the balls in? It''s also hard to say if I actually need to go down a complete half size because the ring sizers only graduate in whole & half sizes. I wonder if I need to go down to 5 1/4. I dont know!! So confusing! I lost weight & my rings spin like there''s no tomorrow. I have to get them fixed somehow.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

Can you describe what your ring is like? Would it be very difficult to size?

I had sizing pads put in, which sounds like what your jeweler did the second time. They are supposed to be more comfortable than the balls. I ended up having a horseshoe sizer put in instead, which I really do love. But I would think they could make the sizing beads in any size you wanted.
