I was wondering if there''s anything I should know about sizing down a channel set wedding band? I was thinking about buying a used band from somebody and it needs to go down 1 1/2 size to fit me. It''s platinum band with little round diamonds on the top half. Very typical looking wedding band. I do know a very skilled goldsmith locally, but I don''t want to buy it first and have him tell me it can''t be sized that much. Any advices? :)

Just ask the goldsmith you know?

I had my princess cut channel set band that I bought stock size 7 but they had to go down to size 4 and I specifically asked if this was a problem- otherwise I wanted to special order it, the jeweler (owner) said no problem ( I think he just wanted his item sold off the rack) and sent it off to his bench person to size it down. Well I had to get it sized 3 times. and I was never quite satisfied, the first time - still too loose, 2nd time - diamond was moving within the channel 3rd time fix the size issue and the diamond stayed put but the ring was no longer a nice round shape it was a bit skewed, I could have complained some more, but I couldn''t take it anymore and the aggravation of going back and forth. But you''re only going a size and half down so I''m thinking it should be fine, but if you were going down quite a bit like I did, I say just have them order it in the correct size the first time.

A half size should be fine.

you''re best bet is to ask the jeweler. you can email them pictures and they can probably give you a pretty good idea. 1 1/2 sizes is a lot for a ring with diamonds in the band. How far they go around etc. may make a difference. My guess is 1 1/2 will be too big a size jump though and could effect the integrity of the ring. diamonds set in a channel and then moved can end up always being problematic. But, I''m not a jeweler so your best advice would be from the person who would be doing the work and guaranteeing that i can be done and still maintain it''s structural integrity.
